Yahoo Mail Sync Problem

Hello All. I've got YahooMail setup on my MotoDroid using the recommended IMAP settings and I can login and retrieve mail no problem. The problem I am having is that the messages I've read keep getting turned back to unread and messages I delete (on the handheld) get resent when it pulls from Yahoo.

Is there a way I can get this to work without upgrading my mail to Yahoo Plus?

Thanks in advance

To set up Yahoo E-Mail on the Motorola Droid:
Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off
Press the E-Mail icon (the default Android E-Mail application)
Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password
Press "Manual Setup" in the lower left hand corner
For "Incoming Server Settings" set the IMAP server to "imap.mail.yahoo.com" and the Port to 143
For "Outgoing Server Settings" set the SMTP Server to "smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com" and the Port to 587
Check "Require sign-in" and press Next
Select how often your Droid will check for Email, and choose default options
Give the account a name and set your display name for outgoing messages
Done and done. You’ve now got Yahoo Mail on your Motorola Droid and it will work with the all-new "Combined Inbox" in Android 2.0. Beautiful.
Have to give credit to Smilepak who shared this with AndroidForums.com members after posting it on his blog. In that same AF thread he has quick tuts on Droid screenshots, Lotus Notes Sync and iTunes sync. Wait what? iTunes Sync? Oh man… this is going to require an article of its own!
Great stuff Smilepak!

make sure you use IMAP setting and NOT POP3

My yahoo IMAP setup is working fine, except that I happened to notice emails that I've sent from my Droid are showing up in the "Sent" folder of my yahoo account multiple times. In one case over 30 times! The people I sent the emails to say they only got it only once. It's very strange, anyone else experience that?

Yahoo told me the other day that Yahoo Mail Plus does not have IMAP support. For those of you that got Yahoo Mail Plus to work on the Droid using IMAP mail server settings, are you in the USA? Does it push your e-mail to you in real time or pull it every 5-60 minutes, which does not work reliably for me using POP3?

Has anyone determined a workaround for the duplicate messages, messages showing they were sent 30 times, and read messages being marked as unread? Thanks.

I've got this same problem with multiple copies in the Sent folder. Also, I've got the issues mentioned by another member about old and deleted yahoo mail coming back as new messages.

Can anyone out there help?

I set my droid up with these settings for Yahoo mail, but i have another problem.
Lets say i send an email on my droid from my yahoo account. It sends fine. Then later I go on my laptop and sign into yahoo, and I see the message shows up in my sent messages many many times (maybe even close to 50 times.)
Anyone else have this problem?

I'm also getting the notifications every 10 mins (it seems) for messages that I've already seen. Some messages do come back after deleted, and I just noticed I have multiple instances of sent mail when viewed from my desktop. It's really annoying.

Wasn't the Dec.11 update supposed to address this issue? Considering Google and Yahoo! have partnered up in the past, here's to hoping it does get fixed.

OT, but the Talk app needs to support AIM and Yahoo! Messenger too, without any hacks.

I was also seeing old (read) messages re-appear in my in box. What I have done to minimize this is to login to Yahoo Mail Plus webmail and delete previously read messages from my in box and then delete the deleted messages. That seems to have cleared up read messages from reappearing for me.

On my Droid sent mail folder, I still see numerous copies of my sent mail (even though each sent e-mail had only been sent once).

I'm also getting old emails reappear as well as multiple (upwards of 300 times) of sent messages in my Yahoo sent folder only when I send an email from Yahoo on the droid. It seems as though multiple sent emails (5-10 at a time) show up each time I refresh on the droid. Looking forward to seeing a resolution!

I would be happy if it were only 50 times. Unbelievable - I didn't notice it until today when I had occasion to try to find an old sent email using my desktop. Hundreds and hundreds of copies of just two emails . . . .

I cannot freakin' believe this! If you read any of my previous posts you would know how pleased I am with the Droid. The only thing about this phone that wasn't working was Yahoo mail. Well that's not exactly true because I immediately setup my Yahoo account but it would not bring over the folders that I created. Whenever I wanted to check for mail in one of those folders I had to logon to the Yahoo main website. I assumed the fix would be included with the Dec11th update so I bypassed this post many times in the past. Tonight just for grins, I decided to implement the instructions and with a few minor tweaks, it worked!

Incoming:
imap.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Not only did it work but it pulled over all my folders.

Now I have a Yahoo Plus account so I am not sure if the upgraded account made it work or the IMAP settings.

Thanks to you all!

got excited when I saw that you got it working. alas I don't have a plus account and this server would not allow me access. really wish I could figure this out. Lots of people are having the problem. It's clearly not caused by Yahoo I think since it does not happen when I run K9 mail. I actually like k9, but it has other issues like not being able to select contacts when writing a new message.

I tried the stock client again and still no joy. I did figure out that the dupes only seem to arise when replying to a message. They did not seem to happen when I wrote a new message. Though I think the dupes also started to duplicate the original sent message once I replied to it. I realize that is hard to follow probably, but I don't know how to explain it better. I wish there was just an option to not sync the sent items since I like the feel of the stock client better than k9. Are there any other options?
