The little things...(2.2 Update addons/changes)

Everything seems much faster to me, and in general, I am enjoying Froyo. I noticed a faster battery drain, but it's probably because I was playing with my phone and tinkering around more than I usually do.

I love that the calendar will show FB birthdays for people. I never understood why, if I manually enter a birthday in for a contact, the calendar wouldn't store it as well.

My clock/weather widget also stopped getting my current location. I'll confirm this again today when I drive 30 miles away from my house...hopefully it works.

Things seem to be a lot more responsive and after updating flash, the browser is at least as fast as 2.1 to me.

This is a good one for us Exchange people. Just did a hard reset and started changing all my settings. I just noticed that we have "peak times & off peak time" now!!!!!! i remeber people complaing about not have this setting. I'm almost positive it wasn't there before.........I remember being one that wanted it.

Has anyone found a way to get the bloatware window from popping up on the computer every time the phone is connected? You know the one asking to install drivers for the less than useful Verizon Vcast Media Manager?
Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Password is 000000 (6 0s)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

Has anyone noticed a changes in the way mail is handled? Mail used to get saved on the device for X amount of days. Now, it seems when I delete the message from the server it is automatically getting removed from the mail app. This was not the case before.

I have had this problem since I got my update to 2.2. I have checked the Internet and different boards, and it looks like this is what HTC / Google wants, I guess we are not smart enough to delete what we want and keep the rest. What good is a smart phone if I can't have my email. It syncs with the email server, and if it has been deleted from the server, it deletes it from the Incredible (actually all Android 2.2 phones). Does not just look for new mail but all mail on the server.

If HTC / Google does not fix this then hopfully someone will come up with a new email app, or back to the Blackberry (I hope I don't have to go that route).

I have to say, I'm very upset at the fact that HTC let Verizon throw in their usual host of bullsh!t software that no one uses. We have a phone with documented battery problems, hey let's do an update and have MORE unused programs running 24-7! Awesome idea, can you hear me now?

Amazon mp3? f off
Vnavigator? useless and redundant and expensive compared to FREE
City ID? please
Skype? No

I'm tempted to root just to delete this useless crap. It amazes me that such a big and successful company can be so ******ed.

Remember you do not need to click right where the cursor needs to be to make a correction. Just get close and swipe your finger over the round button on the bottom/front of the phone this will move your cursor where it needs to be.

wow. Thank you for this bit of information. It was always hell on me trying to get over to my typo to fix it. I never knew about using the optical joystick.

Yeah, this probably pisses me off most about the update. I don't really want to root my phone. Does anyone thnk that there will be some sort of app that can allow us to delete these useless programs that does not require a root?

It removes any incompatibilities that occurred from trying to stack one OS on top of another without wiping any settings, etc. These problems cause lag, non-responsiveness, increased CPU usage ( Read your battery drains faster ), crashes, reboots, force closes, etc.

So...you tell me, is it worth it?:)

<-- went straight for the RUU which forces a complete wipe.
<-- has had none of the problems mentioned all over, especially the lag and battery drain.

NOTE: If you can avoid it all, do not use a program to sync apps backed up back onto your phone. I think some issues are coming from this. My recommendation is use Appbrain to create a list of apps ( or if you don't have many just write them down ) and then redownload them from the market by hand.

An hour or 2 of work now fixing everything on the phone is a world of headaches removed over the next week of trouble shooting 50 different problems:)

Do you have to back up anything besides pictures, contacts and apps?

darn, hey didnt fix the call quality. I find myself, more and more, having to say "what? can you say that again?" to people im talking to. It's getting annoying..
We're not alone. Consumer Reports recently did an evaluation of 30-40 of the newest smart-phones (Inc included). When you look at the comparison chart, you see that most of the phones scored very well in most categories but there was one glaring consistency amongst every single phone reviewed: In the 'call quality' category, they all scored the equivalent of only 1 or 2 stars out of 5.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when brand new phones are so amazing at everything except making calls. I remember the day when talking on a giant analog phones was enjoyable and didn't make me crazy like talking on phones today does.

On a side note, isn't it possible in this day and age to be able to talk over each other without it cutting out?? That's called full duplexing, right?
