I know there are other threads that talk about this issue and I have posted this fix in the right threads but I wanted to share this with a larger audience as this fix seems to help all audio that comes from our EVO's. So even if you don't use Pandora or Slacker Radio you can still benefit from this. All thanks should go to the developers of MixZing for there ability to give us an audio equalizer that helps the sound.

For all those having sound issues with Pandora and Slacker Radio after the 2.2 upgrade. I have seemed to have stumbled across a simple fix for the sound issue.

1. Download an app called MixZing (free version works fine) from the market. Load up the app.
2. Make sure you have at least one audio mp3 on your phone.
3. Play that music file.
4. In the left hand bottom corner of the application there is an icon that resembles an equalizer. Click it.
5. After it comes up Click the "On" check box.
6. Select the arrow next to were it says "flat" and change it to "Bass Boost".

You will hear a considerable difference in the sound. Now by doing this this seems to change all of the audio that you play. I noticed after changing this my Pandora and Slacker radio sound improve tremendously.

Hope this post helps!!!! :):)

Would you classify this as an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation if I am generally happy with audio quality?

That would be option 4 on the poll lol. I know when my wife and I upgraded we noticed a huge decrease in audio quality with Pandora and Slacker Radio. This was also the case with local files. This app just gives you control of the sound and seems to improve it.

I thought the Mixzing equalizer only worked when the full app was open and playing a song.

Well I can be sure of one thing. My Pandora is playing a hell of a lot better after loading that app and using that setting. Seriously......I thought my wife was playing a CD, and she was like nope just Pandora. So I tested it out on her phone because she had the same issue. Sure as shit it fixed hers too.

I'm at the OTHER spectrum.... I don't have an issue with bass boost, but rather with the OVERALL quality.

I already had the 2.2 version on my EVO phone when I bought it (about a week ago), so the upgrade issue does not apply to me. My issue is that when I play Pandora via the headphone jack through my car or home stereo (both respectable systems), the audio quality is not good. It's actually quite boomy and the music is not "vibrant". It's rather dull. I would have to completely revamp my EQ settings JUST FOR the EVO, which I don't plan on doing.

Conversely, the iPod, when connected to either system, absolutely screams with audio quality with NO adjustments.

Any takers on how to improve this on my EVO?

You could try some of the other settings they offer in the EQ. It seems however you set it up will help with other audio on the phone.

The upgrade, and the change in the codec is what caused the issue in the first place. It doesn't matter if you did an OTA from 2.1 to 2.2 or got 2.2 out of the box -- this is a froyo issue and affects all Evos with 2.2 equally.

Bummer... but thanks for the replies!

Please clarify... if I download MixZing and set up the EQ's as I would like them to be, the settings would work even if the audio is being sent by Pandora? Or is it only when MixZing is in use? I'm not clear here....

As far as I can tell it will change it globally and MixZing does not need to be running.

I have to say, you may be on to something, OP. I didn't test out the difference in Pandora audio quality, but I did change the audio buffer size setting in Mixzing to huge, and it seems to have carried over to the system. After froyo, if I listened to music and surfed the net, the music would skip frequently. Now it doesn't skip even though I'm using Meridian and not Mixzing to listen to music. So it's possible that the EQ is a system EQ.

...spoke too soon...???
Now that I downloaded MixZing (free version) so that I can improve my Pandora experience,I don't see where the I can access the EQ settings in the program. The only option that pertains to EQ is whether to
- leave the EQ "on" in the background with phones that causes skipping;
- and audio buffer size options
THAT'S IT.

I thought I would come across actual EQ setting options; like manipulating Hi-Mid-Lo bandwidths, etc. Am I missing something??

Yep, Follow the instructions. Play a music file from you SD Card. Then you will see the EQ settings in the bottom left corner of the screen. Check the box to turn it on then set the EQ to you liking. Close the app...play pandora.

I can confirm, tested with 2 different Evo's, that this EQ does NOT affect anything other than music played in Mixzing. It does NOT affect music played from the Music app, and it does NOT change audio quality in Pandora.

I analyzed the output with a frequency analyzer at work, and there is NO change in anything other than music played with Mixzing.
