Root Droid 2.2 / Universal AndRoot / FRG22D OTA Problem

Verizon Droid 2.2
Stock ROM
Using Universal AndRoot for many weeks under the FRG01B build.
Rooted and unrooted fine.
I only rooted to run SetCPU and OC. No kernels, ROMs, etc as this is a work phone (mission critical).

Got the OTA of FRG22D yesterday. I allowed it to install.

Everything on phone still works fine. BUT, Universal AndRoot says I am Rooted and will not Unroot (it gives an error). When I try to ReRoot from this state, it also says it can't. So Uniersal AndRoot says I am Rooted. SetCPU now only works READ-ONLY and says it cannot access root. I am not at 600MHz and can't change it (I was a 800). Says there may be a "permissions issue" in ROM. I looked in SU Permissions and SetCPU is allowed.

So now not OC'ing, lost Root control. Not sure of I'm rooted or not, etc.

Any help?

Is AndRoot incompatible with FRG22D?

Should I Uninstall and Reinstall AndRoot?

Thanks as always everyone!

John

John,
Yes, we have been discussing this for the last week or so on here. FRG22D kills the exploit by Universal Androot and Easy Root.
There were some work-arounds that you could have employed before installing the OTA that would have spared you but that is water under the bridge now.

Your options are now to live un-rooted or to re-root using the "manual" method.

It is possible the one-click rooting geniuses will figure out another exploit...but maybe not. The D1 is starting to be less of an emphasis for the Devs out there.

Sorry about the headache but that is what you have going on.

Good luck

Is there an easy way to revert back to FRG01B and then keep using Universal Androot? Is that an option for me?

Thx.

We may need someone to pipe up here who is more knowledgeable than I, but I think to revert back to FRG01B you would need root privileges and of course we see where the problem is there.

All paths will lead you to rooting, and at this point that is the manual root (which isn't THAT tough compared to one-click rooting).

Did you make a nandroid backup using Clockwork Recovery? I am not sure but reverting back to that might undo what has been done.

I uninstalled Universal Androot since I updated to FRG22, but the Superusers icon/app is still installed on my phone. I couldn't unroot using UA, so how do I remove the Superusers app from my phone? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I tried searching for a long time and I couldn't find anything.

to the op..

you lost root. it is gone. doing the FRG22D OTA update was a well documented and talked about root exploit breaker here. and, since you had no nandroid backup (shame on you) you cannot flash back.

So at this stage, just root your FRG22D in a few minutes and be done with it. try this or this.

trying to go back to FRG01B just to keep Universal Androot is hardly worth it the time/effort versus the faster methods of just rooting FRG22D above.
