Root "Superuser Permission": how to uninstall/delete forever?

Hello, first post!

So for the past year I have been using a blackberry bold 9700. At the time when I bought the phone, AT&T didn't have any really appealing android offers. Anyway, the captivate came out, and it seemed like finally there was a good, high end android phone for my carrier, despite AT&T's usual bloatware BS. So I went onto craigslist and found some dude who was willing to sell his captivate for 200 bucks + my bold 9700 (side question, was that an OK deal? I feel like a little less money would have been fair). So we met traded, I'm finally on android, I love the phone, but there is one problem.

There is an application on the phone called superuser permissions that I can't delete. I found out it's a program used for rooting. Even though I plan to root my phone eventually, I don't want to root it yet (I'll wait until froyo is released for my phone), and I would rather just root it myself and know what I did to my phone, if that makes any sense.

To make matters a little trickier, I use a mac. I can transfer files between my phone and my computer by going into usb debugging, but the samsung only has drivers that work with Windows... I don't know if that's a problem or not but I just thought I'd mention it.

Lol The SuperUser app is not able to be deleted. Why? Because it is required for the use of a rooted phone. With this said, the only way you can even have this app is if your phone is already rooted. Surprise, you have a rooted Captivate. Have a ball.

Thanks for the response, and yeah I figured it was rooted once I found out what the application was for, but still, how do I get rid of the app/unroot it? (perhaps this question would be better addressed in the rooting forum).

I really want to get the phone unrooted and back onto the preinstalled OS settings until I get the Froyo update over the air, because I doubt I can update OTA through the wireless update button on a rooted phone right? Especially with AT&T. And when I do root, I want to use the captivate root + lag fix guide that someone posted on here, not this superuser permission thing.

I know these questions might seem weird because usually if someone rooted a phone they probably know how to remove the application and unroot it, but if you read my first post, see that I traded this phone with someone through craigslist and they neglected to tell me that it was rooted.

I'm sure if you wait for the 2.2 update, your phone will then be unrooted by applying the update.

If you can't wait til then, find a way to run the ruu for your phone

i would download that and use it to unroot, it would be simplest

also andygu3 really I can just wait until the ota update is available, install that, and it'll unroot itself and delete the app for me?? That's awesome, I assumed instead it would check to see if the phone is rooted and then block me from updating.

I did the one click root/unroot, but it didn't seem to uninstall the superuser icon.

Is there something i'm missing?

You could try Odin3 to go back to how the phone was out of the box.

Re download Ryanza's OCLF from the market place, Unroot your phone which is an option you can click once and done.

S.U.P. will disappear.

Then uninstall the OCLF.

Rogers said I can exchange my shut-down prone phone, but I can't get rid of Superuser.

So far:

- I've unrooted, rerooted and unrooted
- downloaded and tried the OCLF with reroot, with no luck...

its very simple. download link2sdcard app from play store. insede that app it will list all of the aps which have been installed.to uninstall super user: select superuser > action > convert to mobil app > then again action > uninstall
