Best Epic deal I could find.

I will receive my Epic this coming Tue or Wed. I'm a deal hunter. I looked for "Epic" deals for 2 weeks before making my purchase. The best deal I could find was Studentrate.com's deal. Heres how it turned out.

I will receive 25% off my monthly bill - 23% is what the deal is advertised at this time. Due to a misshap on Sprints end, it was increased to 25% and the $100 MIR is turned into a instant $100 off.

Why?

Studenrate.com advertised this deal:

Upto 23% Discount Monthly Recurring Fees
Waived Activation Fee
Free Shipping
$50.00 Credit to New Lines (you must use the promo code provided in the "Click for Link" window)
$25.00 rebate from StudentRate for New Lines (you must use the promo code during the ordering process), and
Free Car Charger (micro usb) for new lines and qualified upgrades.

Sprint has not updated or added the EPIC and EVO phones to Studentrate's / Sprint Store, Studentrate is taking orders by hand at this moment. It has created a lot of confusion. So to make up for it, Studenrate has increased the % to 25% and done away with the MIR by adding $100 instant.

The only problem is, once Sprint adds the ability for customers to use the coupon codes that studentrate offers, the the deal will change back to 23% off monthly and the extra $100 instant off phone deal will go back to just being the normal Sprint $100 MIR. When will Sprint finally add the phones for selection is unknown.

The only CON to this deal is having to go through studentrate.com. They have their own requirements to join. For example to register one must have a .edu email. Also one must fill out a pdf form. Though, filling out the form at 8am in the morning, I received a call from studentrate that my order is processed and then received another call within 20min from Sprint asking for more personal account creating information. Later in the day I received a confirmation email that my order had been shipped with tracking number.

I just wanted to share how I will save over $800 off my 2yr contract. w00t
I personally cannot wait to get my hands on a android phone and hack the crap out of it.

Yes indeed android phones are epic the epic 4g is a nice choice but be careful rooting (jail-breaking/"hacking" ) can mess up and will void the warranty on your phone so go over the rooting process for a while look at videos and read alot. i messed up my hero lol and then soaked it in the water than got another one lol just be ready. Epic 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums might help ALOT. Good luck and thank you for joining us and enjoy your new Epic Epic 4g

Oh god, Ramen.... I think the first book I will write will be titled, "60 Days of Ramen". I have had my share of that.
Rooting will of course the first thing I will attempt. There is so much more to explore.

How did you get that much off? I thought you need to be a rhode island student?

I didn't see a Rhode island student requirement. *shrug* Where did you see/hear that?

I'm not sure. The site is pretty confusing. I'm also looking to get it from studentrate but I'm trying to figure out what discount I can get. 25 or even 23% would be great. Hopefully we can get the maximum discount. I just wish the details for the deal were more clear.

Ya thats the problem. Its not very clear. The reason why people are getting a better deal than advertised is because people grew mad at the lack of info and readiness of Sprint for this deal. Studentrate worked to get a better deal to people because of how irate people have gotten. They wont advertise the extra because its more of "we are sorry on Sprints behalf so heres a better deal we are giving you". It will go back to normal once its set up on sprints end and people can use the deal on Sprints site. This was pretty much what I was told.

Until then its, fill out a pdf form, then send it to studentrate, they will then send it to sprint. I have to say, studentrate is bending over backwards for people right now.

I don't know what to say about the extra 2% off. Nothing official has been posted on their forums, other than that the MIR has been replaced by the 100$ instant due to the Sprint website mess.

I'm going for it. Wish me luck. It's too good of a deal to pass up.

How do I confirm that I am getting 25% and not 23%. I went to Studentrate, and then clicked on "click for link", it took me to Sprint's website, but the landing page says you get 23% discount. Furthermore, when I click on Epic "get it now" button, it takes me to a page saying "We're sorry, but the phone you selected is currently not supported in the zip code you entered. Here's a list of phones that are supported in your zip code." .. Whats happening?

Its not actually threw Sprints website at this time. They posted blue text at the bottom of the discount description explaining that the sprint website at this moment is not active with the discount or the phones.

You have to head into the forums and use the PDF PreOrder form. Copy and Paste it in your email and then fill it out. Send it to epic@studentrate.com and they will take care of it. You don't have to put your SSN in the form if you don't want to. Sprint will call you to get your SSN and Payment info.

I want to get a Sprint Family Plan that includes 5 lines. Only one member of my family has a college email address. Can someone tell me if I can still get the $100 off each of the lines or will it just apply to one line?

Thanks

All lines. You will get 100 off or MIR on each epic phone. Depends when you do it.

Do you know if there is any tax (esp in california) if we get it through StudentRate? I heard that Amazon is not charging any tax and wish I could escape it though studentrate?

Ya, I had to pay tax with studentrate. Before studentrate I was gonna do the amazon deal. The Tax is still a drop in the bucket compared to how much you will save.

So after taxes, how much you had to pay out of pocket total? I know california requires tax on full retail price, so was it something like around $300??

Heres a print screen of my order email.
I had to call sprint and fix my insurance. It wasn't added in the initial order.
My total was $270.99 after everything.

I found another deal through wirefly and Bank of America's Add it Up program. Right now there is no activation fee and the phone is just $199. Also if you use Wirefly through Bank of America's Add it Up Program you get $50 cash back, making the phone $149-and it says right now that the phone will ship on Monday.

Can you please tell what are the build dates of the device/battery you received? It is posted on/under the battery. Thanks for the invoice. Looks like the tax was charged on 249 instead of whole retail price, which is always a good thing. What is your impression of the device so far?

Aug 19 for battery and Aug 21 for device.

I'm loving it. Its my first Android Phone so its sort of a learning curve. A lot of my time has been trying to build/customize it to what I want it to do. From settings to Apps.
