Help Auto-Rotation Sensitivity

I have been trying to find some information if there is any way to adjust how sensitive the phone is to switch from portrait to landscape.

I hate the fact that I have to shake my phone to get it to switch

Other phones I have have used never were this stubborn before.

It's like this since the 2.2 update... it's more than likely something with the way it now allows for rotation on both sides for landscape as well as portrait. Pre 2.2, we never had this issue. For now, live and let live, just deal with it best you can. There'll be something along the way to remedy this.

My problem is that it starts off in landscape constantly and is a pain to get it to switch to portrait while holding it in a normal viewing position.

I just turn off auto rotate unless I specifically need to have it rotate. I just don't have a big landscape need I guess.

Man - I rotate mine to landscape 90% of the time - seems waaay easier to type in that mode

I like that it's a little "sticky". It drives me nuts to borrow someones phone and have it constantly spinning if I hold it somewhat flat. Giving my evo a little tap on the corner works great to get it to rotate. An impact (a tiny one!) generates much higher acceleration than shaking will.

oh i agree....but the lag drove me crazy

patiently awaiting the one click root from unrevoked and hoping that I can fix the issue with custom roms and kernals

They should at least make a user setting so you can tailor how sensitive it is for your own liking.

I only wanna use one hand to hold and to get a strong enough 'tap' I'd be forced to use my other hand... Aaarrrggggg.....
I like everybody's answer and think we should be able to finess all these sorts of options to our individual likings.....

I just figured out something with my EVO. If the phone is laying flat, it will not rotate. If the phone is vertical, the rotation works perfect.

I'm having this same problem

2.1 it worked perfectly

2.2 if i get a notification or open an app thats already running it goes landscape automatically

i took it to the sprint store and told them i didn't want to downgrade to 2.1, so they turned off auto rotate

i have a few friends with evo's and they do not have this problem

I've tried

factory reset
hard reset
calibrated the g sensor
root with custom rom
and now a custom theme

still the same problem persists, this drives me nuts, its like having a shitty built rom your trying out even with everything factory.

i have searched high and low and nobody has a fix

I need to try and find a way to get insurance to replace it

my speculation is that it is an adjustment in the sensitivity to the accelerometer when they changed the landscape adjustment with the 2.2 update. It has been present in every Evo phone I have held in my hands

I hope they fix it in an update soon!

You can calibrate it with 2.2 by downloading a free level app called "Bubble" from the market. Open the app and hit menu
