Root Problem rebooting into recovery

I have a MotoDroid that has Froyo 2.2... I rooted it and am running a new rom. I was trying to boot into recovery using rom manager and it doesnt work. I also tried holding the x and power button down to reboot and it wont work either. It just shows the "M" for a long time then flashes "M" comes up again and in load like normal or it sometimes freezes and I have to take the battery out. just also tried to back up current rom and that doesnt work either. Can someone tell me whats going on and if and how I can fix it

Go into rom manager and flash a new clockwork mod. This works 99 percent of the time

Once took me 5 attempts to get Clockwork recovery to "take"...if I was in your shoes.

I would do a 1 minute battery pull (literally one minute with the battery out) and then try everything fresh. Try to flash Clockwork Recovery and boot into Recovery a number of times..

If you have tried all that and still struck out then we will have to wait for one of the smarter guys to take a peek in here...like OMJ or John Galt or someone.

There is a feature in Froyo that will always try to flash stock recovery when you reboot.

To disable it, delete/rename the following file (easiest in Root Explorer)
/system/recovery-from-boot.p

After you do this, flash clockwork or sprecovery again and reboot twice to prove to yourself that it stuck The "flash a few times" is not really true -- most don't realize that if you flash, then reboot and go into recovery you will see the custom recover. But if you let it boot into the system, it will flash back stock recovery without you even knowing.

Probably not -- most custom ROMs should already remove this for you.

This becomes an issue when you're rooting the stock firmware. You need to remove this file to preserve your custom recovery on reboot. At some point ROM Manager I'm sure will fix this -- part of flashing the custom recovery will disable the stock recovery properly.

If you are somehow able to install the FRG01B/FRG22D OTA update on top of your custom ROM you will have this enabled, and your root lost. Essential they're trying to remove your root access and custom recovery to restore a rooted OS in one fell swoop with both these OTA updates. I'm not sure if this feature was part of Eclair, it could be -- most people are not aware of this since they probably run custom ROMs that "do this work for them"
