Camera comparison: Fascinate vs Incredible

I think the Incredible has better white balance but I prefer the Fascinate's photos.

How did you get a hold of the Fascinate to take test pictures?

Lol. I have access to many phones ;) Job benefits i guess.

I just thought it would be very interesting to have a good comparison.

Those 3 pics were the best i could think to do. If you guys have would like me to take a certain pic, let me know.

Alright guys. I uploaded 4 more pics. I took them in my office with the lights ON then the lights OFF. You'll need to read the caption above each pic to see when the lights in the office were on/off. Also, in all 4 pics the flash went off on both devices.

This room has VERY little light. I was going for the worse possible lighting i could so it would push the phones. Let me know what you all think.

Jedi. Let me ask you something a little off-topic: How is the battery life on that thing compared to the Droid Incredible? I am not sure if you have a Droid X lurking there as well, but how is that battery life compared to that as well if you do have one lurking.

The Fascinate barely beats out the Incredible (using stock 2.2). The Droid X beats them both on battery life though. But, I am using an extended life battery on the X so that doesnt really count. lol.

The stock X battery probably will still be the Fascinate (pre 2.2) IMO.

woah surprisingly IMO the fascinate looks way better (considering the difference in mp) cant wait till thursday! & if its true about the extended battery not needing a new cover ill get that too!

Its true. The stock back has plenty of space for the extended battery :)

The extended battery is an increase from 1500mAH to 2200mAH

Thanks for the low light pics. The Fascinate does indeed look better.

I expected it, given that the Incredible's 8MP is a poorer implementation, versus the 5MP back-illuminated tech on the Fascinate.

I've come to learn that MP doesn't really mean anything these days :/

I can't wait until Thursday...

Indeed. We were using the *hides behind a wall* iPhone 4 earlier. The fascinate seriously was almost identical to the iPhone 4!!!

Where did you read that the Fascinate has a back-illuminated sensor? If that's true and it's 5 MP, it could be the same sensor that Apple is using in the iPhone 4.

The same is true for many digital cameras. If the sensor type is the same and the megapixels are the same, the manufacturers are likely using the same sensor - typically made by Sony - and then apply their own algorithms to get a certain "look" to their images.

Thanks!

And have you seen or have the dimensions of the extended battery?

If it does fit under the stock cover, that'd be...INCREDIBLE! =P

Well yeah. I have the extended battery with me. The back has wasted space as is. Putting the extended battery in added just the right amount of weight to make the phone feel perfect :)

Wow, sweet!

Can you get through a full day (early morning until late night) with HEAVY use, using the extended battery?

Not sure if you answered the battery life question with respect to the extended or the stock battery:

"The Fascinate barely beats out the Incredible (using stock 2.2)."

Barely beats out the Incredible (with 2.2) using the extended battery on the Fascinate) and stock 2.1 ?

(Incredible + 2.2) vs (Fascinate + Extended Battery + 2.1) ?

Thanks again for all your input. It's been a HUGE help. Better than all those silly review sites.

The standard battery is basically identical to the Inc running 2.2

Yesterday is the first day i ran the Fascinate all day on the ext battery. Here is how the day played out:

7:15am took off charger. Used heavy web usage (engadget, BGR, facebook, AF.) I stay on gTalk all day with my wife and friends. Handful of text messages. About 4 calls that were over 10 minutes. And i played thru all 15 levels of Angry Birds Lite (LOL). I also listened to last weeks Engadget podcast using Stitcher (over an hour long).

This of course includes me taking test pictures for you guys.

I also never really sit my phone down. I continually mess with it throughout the day.

Got home last night around 9:30pm and i just hit around 15% battery.

I would say that was above average for daily use.

After searching again it appears possible the back-illuminated cmos I read about doesn't really have credible sources. Sad day, sorry for the mis-information. :/

Yeah. I have heard this as well. Even had a Samsung rep tell me that it was back-illuminated. But he had nothing to prove it. He's also just a third party rep so i dont trust his facts all the time.
