Root Another noob question

Alright so I've learned a decent amount in the past few days (I'm new to rooting), and I'm pretty sure I want to experiment with a rom. Now the only thing I don't understand is how to back up apps. I've already made a nandroid back up of my current phone state, and I know how to back up contacts, but I cannot figure out how to back up apps. I've heard of something called google cloud, but I have no idea what it is, nor can I find anything on it. Help would be appreciated.

I use appbrain others use Tatanium backup,u can find both in the Market.

So they just back up the apps to an SD card?

Also check out MyBackup on the market. It backs up apps and your data, homescreen layouts, etc. And you can have it save the backup info to your SD card or to the cloud.

No,at least not appbrain. I've never used TB so I can't comment on that.

Oh alright thanks, so I take it that it backs up to a server? Also novox, what exactly is the cloud? I've seen that term, I just don't understand it.

A cloud is a hosted web service applicationwhere u can store data.

I've used a few methods, i found appsaver works best,it allows you to save the .apk and does not save settings since those are useless from app to app. Save .apk and install when you flash new Rom, but thats just how I like to do it's

Not to muddy the waters, but astro file manager does a great job of this also.

Best part about rooting, find how YOU like to do stuff

I didn't read what made you think this, but appbrain doesn't store your apps...just a list of them. You won't keep settings, but it helps you not forget what you had installed.

Sorry about my last post, made it on my phone and auto correct changed words. I use appsaver, free in the market. It will take all your apps and save the .apk on your sd card so when you flash a new rom, you can just install them without ever touching the market. I did this last night and had no problems at all, and since it installs the app fresh you dont have to worry about an app or phone acting funny bc the settings from one rom are not trying to override settings from another.

The cloud can pretty much refer to any or all of the computers connected to the Internet that isn't yours. Saving something to the cloud just means that it's not being saved on your computer/phone. Someone else is hosting that saved data. Examples of data on the cloud are: gmail, flickr photo albums, everything you post to facebook, imageshack photos, etc.

There are privacy concerns with cloud data storage. Like, what is google doing with all your email? Is it mining the content of the email to target ads to you? Facebook is under a lot of pressure due to their privacy policy. They refuse to delete anything a user ever posts. So just realize that whenever you allow your data to be saved to the cloud, you lose control over how the data can be accessed/exploited. Doesn't mean the cloud is bad; you just need to know what the company(ies) policies are.
