Root Contacts won't load from Titanium Backup :(

Okay I have no clue what's going on here but TB won't restore my contacts. I had 2.1 and installed the older 2.2 leak from over a month ago and was able to restore contacts then via TB (although I don't exactly remember how).

So I wanted the new 2.2 and downgraded the radio and returned to stock, did unrevoked forever and put 2.2 on my phone. I restored all my apps but the contacts are gone. They aren't stored on VZW or Google either. Am I missing something? I went through the system stuff in TB and clicked on everything that was green and restore app and data several times and then I restored just data a few times too and still nothing. I know my contacts are saved in here somewhere. Help!

Your contacts should be backed up to Google. Log in via a web browser on a desktop, do you see your contacts?

Guessing the phone only contacts are either under contacts 2.1 or People. I'd try restoring data only.

Google has a ton of contacts but they are my email contacts. No phone contacts. Very odd...I think I went through and deleted them months ago because they kept duplicating in my contacts on my phone.

Also, tried contacts and people in Titanium Backup and still nothing works. There's not a single contact on my phone.

Did you try going into people and hitting import/export and try getting them from sd card?

Hi Tonyfish, I actually did try that last night and it didn't find any vcards. I'm guessing TB holds the contacts in some sort of other file. I know they are all in my TB file I just don't know how to get them. It's very frustrating!

Ok, so just to verify you did this:

Menu > Batch > Restore All Apps With Data > Deselect All > Reselect People 1.0 (or any other app to try) > Press "Data only" button > Run the batch operation

Correct? And you did the above for a few other likely apps too? If yes, I have no idea what the problem is unless per chance you did a new Ti backup under your new setup which was void of contacts.

Yep, that's exactly what I did. I run the green Contacts one first, then I ran people ones, rebooted, you name it. I didn't run a new TB so the contacts should be intact in here somewhere. Is there a way to look at the file that TB created? Maybe I could create an XLS of my contacts if I can get into the file and import them into Google and then sync...?

Idk man, I've browsed the Titanium folder on the SD card before, but hacking into those files is a little more than I've ever cared to try.

Okay...apparently I did screw up last night. I went through the files in the TB folder on my SD card and all files were created around the same time except for two: the home screen file and the contacts file...both of those were created over an hour later which would have been when I restored my phone. I guess I restored all my apps and then instead of going to restore I hit backup and checked contacts and home screen and it recreated the file with nothing in it which would be why everything but those two things work. Luckily the SD card I have is new and I ran TB on a different SD card a month ago so it's not a wash afterall. One question though: does Backup Assistant automatically run on the Incredible? I'm wondering if my contacts are in there somewhere...I never ran it myself though.

I'm pretty sure you have to set-up and run BA. it does not run automatically(at least without being set-up first).

I STRONGLY recommend converting to google contacts.

It may be a pain the first time to get the duplicates merged or manually entered but once your done, your done. then your ALWAYS SAFE.

Hello all. I'm a rather active member over at the Droid forums, but I do drift in here from time to time. My g/f has the DInc and we just purchased one for my mother for her b-day (which should hopefully be here tomorrow).

I'm very familiar with the root process as I've had my Droid rooted since February. However, taking on the task for the DInc is proving to be a completely diff monster. Obtaining root, was super easy compared to what I had to do to the Droid (back then), but I'm still getting used to this HBoot, S-Off, and what not.

One thing I noticed after clearing my cache and factory resetting was the same issue as the OP. Now, whenever I flash a ROM for my Droid after doing a full wipe, my contacts are always there after I sign in. Just an automatic thing from Google.

I don't know if it's HTC Sense, or whatnot, but the only contacts saved to Google are a few email addys.

I wound up answering my own question. I went to People, and then hit menu. From there, I hit Import/Export. I was then prompted to Import from SD card or to Export to SD card, to which I chose the latter. Then I was prompted to select the account to export, Google or Phone. After choosing phone, it created a file saved to the SD card (remember that file).

From my pc, I went to Gmail. Chose My Contacts, then More Actions. Next, I selected Import. I then plugged in and mounted the USB. Where it asks to Please select a CSV or vFile to upload, I hit browse and found my SD card (for me, it was the H drive). Scrolled down the the file I previously saved, hit open, and voila, they're now saved to the Google account.

For those that had this issue, this should eliminate the need for using TiBu to restore contacts. Google should sync them when you sign in. And even if they don't, you can simply go to People, hit Menu, select Import/Export and Import from SD card, and select the file.

Hope my mistake helps someone in the future.

You actually didn't even need to do anything on your PC. Once you do the export of the phone contacts, you can import the same file, and it prompts you as to what type of contacts you want to import them as. You can choose google right on the phone. If you have contacts set to sync, it will sync to your google account no problem. This is what I did and it works flawless.

Because of the duplicate issues and such, I decided to start fresh and just delete everything on my google account since I had all my contacts saved as 'Phone'. Worked perfectly now that they're completely in sync and took no more than 5 minutes.
