Help Woah - not cool evo

So my EVO took a private text msg and sent it to another person in my address book.

It did not show up in the msg history between me and this other person. I only know they received it by accident because they told me and forwarded it back to me.

This is 100% unacceptable. If Sprint cant assure me this wont happen again there is no way I can keep this phone. I can't have private msgs broadcast out to random people.

Non-rooted phone with Froyo. I'm not sure if downgrading back will help or not.

Hold on a minute...Where you using the native message client or were you using Handcent or Chomp or some other SMS client?

I ask because i never had an issue with the sprint/ HTC one, but have had the same issue with Handcent.

So before you go blaming the evo or sprint or HTC i ask you to please check your app. It very well could be a third party app causing the issue.

When it happened to me i found that when i hit the send button on Handcent and i had an incoming message at the same time that it would cause the outgoing to pause then send to the person that just sent me the message.

Very screwy indeed but like i said, check for third party apps prior to blaming the evo.

Thanks,

I have nightmares over this...

This happened to me before the froyo update. I would click a thread to send to, say my girlfriend, and hit the send button. When it sent and went back to the main messaging screen, i would see the text sent to someone completely different.

I thought the froyo update fixed this, because I hadnt had the problem since the update. But it happened again yesterday. I sent a text to my girlfriend, I was in her thread, and hit the send button in her thread. but when it backed out to the main screen, I saw it sent to my boss. not cool. I made a thread about this about a month ago or so, and got no responses.

Hmm...its weird because my problem is slightly different. Like I wouldn't see it sent to my boss, my boss would just get it without my knowing, and it would still show as being sent to my gf.

Obv not cool either way.

I have definitely had this happen to me. i have to be very vigilant with the stock messaging client. It did it once to me and i was not too happy.

Also, ill click one thread of txt messages, and it will bring up an entirely different thread that was nowhere near where i originally clicked. I never had this issue on my Hero. quite frustrating indeed.

Um...........serious problem : o! It hasn't happened to me but if it did it could be bad. Very very bad!

I have clicked on a thread and some other random thread comes up, it is annoying, I thought it wad user error, now realize it is a bug of sorts.

I always double check who I am sending to and even have set up several friends as "direct message" icons if I want to double sure and/or start so new thread. But if one of my texts to one friend were to be wrongly sent to another........disastrous!

Mine does this too. My evo has sent to someone randomly too. (When unrooted, stock sms app)
Also, when i bring up a thread to one person, LOTS of times another completely different person comes up and i have to back out of the conversation, and try to open the first persons thread again.

For my girlfriend, i started us using Yahoo messenger instead.. I cant let that happen to me anymore.

I had a weird thing happen with mine today ... texted a picture to my GF directly from the gallery with no text, just the picture. She got some crazy message with the pic ... something about other girls, etc. Awesome. Now she thinks I'm texting other girls and is all pissed off. Tried repeating it with other pictures and the same thing every time, as if she's getting someone else's text messages with the pics I send ...

I sent the same pictures to another person I know and they got no text, just the pics. Weird. I think I'm gonna install Handcent after all these problems.

one quick thing to note - i've noticed that the evo picks up my finger touch before i actually touch the screen. the times i've had a different thread come up when intending to pick my original, it's usually cause my palm hovered over that thread first. It's almost predictive in its sensitivity to touch. Happened to me endlessly with the search button for the first week i had it until i realized what was going on. just my two cents...

+1 for Handcent!

I've got 10k+ messages in Handcent and not one has gone anywhere that I didn't intend it to go. Not that anyone has replied and told me about anyway. And the type of friends I have would definitely screenshot and harass me over it...

agreed. that is scary to read but luckily ive been using handcent since almost day 1 and this has never happened to me.

That really happens, But randomly sending messages to another person no. It's a shame we have to make sure who we are sending messages to even tho we hit the correct thread. CRAZY! I try to get everyone using Gtalk so I don't have to deal with text messages to often.
