Im pretty sure that when I upgraded my rooted 2.1 inc, to the OTA froyo, I still have root. I still have the superuser permissions and incredilight still works? So, Im rooted and on the official 2.2 froyo update.

Just double checked and YES I am still rooted running on the OTA 2.2. Not sure what you guys are talking about? But when my phone finally took the OTA update, I didnt loose root.

Pretty sure it means for those that have never rooted and have no s-off, that it will now be possible from the 2.2 Froyo update, without having ever rooted prior to 2.2. We knew it was possible before if you were rooted with s-off prior to the official upgrade

You got it. I was waiting for the official OTA to 2.2 before I started playing with my phone. I realize that this is not a concept that a majority of you in the forum understand.

i was waiting for this as well. i decided that i would root after i got the 2.2 update and saw how i liked it etc etc etc

unfortunately within a week of all this happening i had to have my phone replaced by Verizon so now not only am i waiting on the Unrevoked team(which shouldnt be a wait at all it looks like) but also for big red to send me my phone haha.

hopefully it will all fall into place within the next 2 days or so and i'll have my rooted Incredible sometime this week :)

Yeah, I know...same boat here. But I have been paying attention for when I was ready. Seems like a good time now...I'm pretty happy with Froyo, just want to get rid of the bloat-ware mostly.

And not that it matters, but I made that other post on other account. Didn't pay attention when I logged in. Should delete that account

I'm finally ready to try and root. Do I understand the steps right?

1. download and install the windows hboot drivers as shown on the unrevoked wiki page
2. reboot the phone, hook it up as charge only
3. download and run unrevoked 3 exe

Now, to get rid of bloatware, can I just download root explorer and move the apk files via that, or do I need to download and run the sdk (which I don't have)?

Tested this last night through the Forums at XDA. It is smooth and fast, took less than 2 minutes to root a Stock 2.2. Incredible and provided S-Off. Very nice and It will be great once it is released. Understand there were some issues with some devices not getting S-off, so the Unrevoked Team was looking into it before releasing it. Trust me it is worth the wait!!!

Okay guys, I have never rooted Android before (though I have jailbroken many Apple products as well as my Kindle) so I am very new to this. I have what will seem like a stupid question to the rooting experts. Sorry in advance but I just can't seem to figure this out.

Will this unrEVOked JUST root the phone?

I have no desire to use custom roms or overclock the processor or anything like that. I am happy with my phone as it is. The only thing I want to do is gain root access so I can remove the bloatware and maybe put on a custom boot animation. That's all. Is this what I will need to achieve that?

Again, sorry for what seems like a stupid question. I looked all around the root forum and I am pretty sure this is what I am looking for, but I am not positive. It seems that every post talks about custom roms and theme's and so on, so I am getting lost in the mix.

Yes, unrevoked basically just roots the phone so you can remove bloatware and custom boot animation. They should have directions posted on the website and it looks like they are going to have the official 2.2 root method posted shortly.

SecretSexyNinja has a thread on it, but they removed it because of a bug. I think they'll have it back up within a day or two.

So when will we know when the bugs are ironed out? should i keep checking here? i'm dying to try this.

It's worked fine for all incredible users that beta tested. I think they will have it re-posted shortly with directions included on their website!

Great, thank you! I will patiently await the release. Hell, I have waited this long :D

One more question. On their site they have the unrevoked 3 (the one that they pulled to fix) and unrevoked forever. The latter says that you need to do the unrevoked first to gain root access.

Okay... so what is unrevoked forever for then? I am so confused.

If I have this right... unrevoked 3 is just a recovery program. They of course recommend it before messing with your phone which is fine, but it's not what actually roots the phone. Unrevoked Forever is what roots the phone and allows you to S-OFF.

Is that correct? So when the time comes I do the unrevoked 3 part, then unrevoked forever?

I clearly have some more reading to do before I attempt this... :D

The release that is coming out (the one they just pulled), has forever built in as an option that you can do while it roots your phone.

edit: The old way of doing it was, Unrevoked3 to root and reflash and then Forever to set your phone to S-OFF. Just clarifying lol
