I have a Droid Incredible and I'm within my 30 day trial period, I was curious to see this phone, however that has all changed.

The back of the phone looks like a piece of plastic they found to stick on there.
The obvious square icon Iphone like look - yuck.
The GPS issue is just embarrassing and unacceptable for $30 a month data fee in 2010.
The inclusion of Bing is slap in the face.
Verizon would never do this to a real "Doid" family phone.

I had the inc and the back felt so cheap and i was always worried it would break. the plastic on the fascinate is alot better then on the inc
there is already a gps fix over at xda you can use
Why not keep your inc then since you obviously just got it and dont like the features on the fascinate?

I agree. I like the looks of the Fascinate..I'm not getting rid of my X for it though but i like the looks. I don't like the Bing thing however but I think you can work around that.

I have a good friend at the local verizon store and she told me today that she knows I will return the phone if I buy it, she said it feels cheap and looks like an iphone wanna be. She said all the employees there said the same thing but I told her I will still buy it and give a test drive, so what if it cost me 35.00 to take it back, maybe I just might like it?

Also she said you can only download a google maps beta?? Not sure on that one? Maybe I misunderstood, don't sound right.

I played with the vibrant which is very similar to the fascinate and i didnt think it felt cheap maybe thats just me. Yeah it looks like an iphone so what idk what the big deal about that is. Maybe they make more commission if they sell you a motorola phone or something which could be why they said not to buy this phone? Who knows.

I guess your friend does not know much about software then. ;) Google Map Navigation is still in beta. So are many app that I am currently using on my BlackBerry, e.g. SocialScope Lite. :)

Heres a crazy idea. Why dont you all wait until the phone is released and you have it in your hand before you form an opinion about it. Coming on here talking bad about a phone youve never even seen in person because someones brother knows a guy that has a freind that works for verizon and they said its a bad phone just makes you look stupid. I cant wait to see how many people all over the android forums that are bashing this phone already end up liking it. We will see what happens on the 9th. Also to go off what substring said, people at VZW dont know sh*t. Half of them probably dont even know how to instal and uninstal apps on these phones.

Wow I just posted what I was told, I even said that I am still buying it, and you come here saying it makes me look stupid?

Sorry if I offended anyone by posting that, was only giving information that I was told, I was not implying it was truth.

I have had the fascinate since Friday. I trashed the Bing search widget and put a bookmark for Google on one of my honescreens. Not a big deal.

I downloaded Google maps from the market and have used turn-by-turn directions with no GPS issues.

The back is plastic, but it is not as flimsy as the back on the Incredible. The screen is gorgeous and the 4 inch size is perfect for me. The 4.3 inch screen on the X was difficult for me to type on because it was a struggle for me to easily reach all of the letters on the keyboard with my thumbs when typing.

I don't why I hear people say this. I had the Incredible and I never thought for one minute that the back felt flimsy or cheap. In fact, just the oposite.

What I consider to be cheap looking is that black, shiny, fingerprint magnet on the back of the Fascinate.

Ha the incredible back was so flimsy and cheap it was rediculous. But I don't see why you get upset over the fascinate back and fingerprints I forgot the back is what everyone looks at...NOT

I used to have the droid inc for about 2 months and loved it but had to get off my family plan and create my own plan so i went for the galaxy s and now i have the samsung captivate on at&t which i've had a little over a month.

After reading the engadget review, I agree with most of their points and frustrations. The captivate is also full of bloatware. One thing i think they didn't mention. Is the fascinate blocked from side-loading non market apps like the captivate is?

While i wouldn't be super-bothered by bing being the default search app on the phone, its just super surprising to see this on a google operating system. Seems pretty low of verizon and google. The other low point is having vz navigator set as the default navigation software. At least this is changeable. The problem with this is that i've seen a couple of people in the captivate forums mention that they started using the at&t instant messenger or at&t navigator, neither of which is free. i would see many kids or non tech savvy people doing this putting recurring fees on their bill without noticing.

That said, at least it has flash. Kinda makes up for some of it i guess.

Am I sensing hostility? Wait til you guys have the phone to really.make a decision on build quality. There have been several reviews that said the Inc felt cheap and plasticky while others said it felt solid. There will always be differing viewpoints.

Agreed. I'm big on build quality as well and that made the first Droid a good choice for me. But there are many who wouldn't want to carry around a heavy device.

Why people care about the build quality of a phone they obviously aren't planning on purchasing doesn't make much sense.

Choice is a wonderful thing...so please be respectful of individual preferences that don't really have any bearing on you personally. ;)

I don't get how people are saying the Incredibles back is flimsy and cheap eitehr. I think the phone is pretty solid. Has a great feel and plus I'd say 75% of people that buy a high end touch screen phone are going to put a case on it anyways. I have a Hyrbrid Red Case with a hard clear back so I can see the great looking back of the Incredible.

But I'm almost postivie I'm giong to go pick up a Fascinate this weekend and give it a test run, if I don't like it I'll just return it. No biggie, plus there are some interesting devices taht look to be coming out for Verizon for Christmas. The Droid Incredible HD is the one that is really catching my eye.

I had a chance to stop by the local verizon store on my way home from work. They did not have a Fascinate on display, but when I asked, they were nice enough to bring one from the back. It was activated and running.

I did have about 20 minutes with the phone. I won't go into detail, but the phone is extremely thin and light weight. I almost felt like it was gonna just fall out of my hand. The phone didn't feel cheap per say, but it had this weird feeling, very hard to describe. The back was this hard, shiny plastic, When I tapped it with my finger, it felt like one of those cheap toys that had the made in china stamp on it (probably was made in china. LOL). That part of the phone looked cheap to me. The rest of the phone, no doubt it's 100% recycled plastic.

Better 35 dollars then 2 years under contract for something you hate.
