Hey

This isn't a /major/ problem but it will irritate me if I can't find a solution! How can I get rid of all the game demos that Orange have so thoughtfully installed on my Desire? I've had a look in Settings > Applications but the Uninstall option for these doesn't show up.

What can I do?

Thanks :)

There's a thread in the Desire forum called 'orange crap' I think that discusses this. Seems there's no way to get rid of these apps and shortcuts, all you could do it flash the ROM with the default HTC one. There's a link to instructions in that thread. Also noticed Google Talk isn't there and has been replaced by Messenger that I believe Orange charge for.

Their Web Browser logo looks rubbish and bland on the homescreen, is there a way of changing this (have not had a proper look and play yet)?

If I uninstall the browser (to remove the logo with the orange bland branding on top), would i be able to get hold of the standard browser available on the market?

When i search for 'browser' or 'htc browser' it doesn't return the stock browser as far as i can see...

LauncherPro let's you hide apps on the app drawer, but switching to LauncherPro just to hide the Orange apps is quite an extreme solution! There's no way to create sub folders within the app drawer, as far as I know.

Orange have said that the 2.2 FroYo update due this month has LESS Orange branded apps than the current 2.1 ROM, that may help a little if it's true.

Their story is getting boring now. Heard anything of a specific date? I don't mind 2.1's layout at all. All i REALLY need is apps to sd

Mid-September according to Conor Maples, which could mean next week.

Thing is, didn't he say a few weeks ago that the process to release the software to Orange customers normally took about 4 weeks and that it was "on target" (which meant late August at the time), but then after the date had passed he admitted they didn't have the software and it would be mid-September instead?

I'm with Orange myself and I basically just ignore their pre-installed stuff. Orange Messenger is free but needs software installing on your PC, which butchers your MSN Messenger by covering it in - yes - lots of Orange branding. As I leave my wifi and mobile internet switched off apart from when I'm using them though I personally don't mind not using this.

Still looking forward to getting Froyo though, if only for speed improvements and bug fixes. No intention of going down the debranding route though.

thing is... don't you think its right that owners of orange handset have the option to uninstall the bloatware that's installed? You wouldn't expect to buy a Dell PC that comes with Norton AV and not be able to uninstall it. Surely this is the same with phone handsets. Give the customer a choice. I for one will not be using Orange next time unless they sort out their branding fiasco.

Absolutely.

Hopefully with Orange's eventual release of 2.2 though they'll follow Vodafone's example and make their software removable or optional. I won't hold my breath though. I wouldn't move away from Orange though as I think they're pretty good by and large and their network has only let me down on a few occasions, mainly due to me being in odd locations. Moving away from them just due to bloat on a phone seems a little excessive.
