IT iliterate newbie

I am new to the world of Android and can honestly say it's a tad confusing.
I have an HTC Desire
Sadly I am also IT iliterate (well almost!)

Whats are the top 10 things I should know / do with HTC Desire (clean answers only please!

My first issue is connecting to sky.com e-mails. I can't seem to connect??

So hello, and sorry for the stupid question!

Just had a look into this and its a confusing subject using sky email accounts. It looks like you need to download an app from the market called K9 mail to get this working. Once you have done that then below I have added the settings (apart from your own email address and password) that you should need to enter.

Incoming server:

IMAP Server: imap.tools.sky.com
Security: SSL
Authentication: PLAIN
Port: 993

Outgoing server:

SMTP server: smtp.tools.sky.com
Security: SSL (if available)
Port: 465
Require sign-in: TRUE
Authentication: PLAIN

Folder poll check frequency: Never
Folders to check with poll: None
Folders to check with push: All


Give it a go and let me know how you get on. Once we get that sorted we can get some nice things on your phone

I use Sky's email on my Desire and it works really well. Shout-up if you have specific problems (jay_kay's settings are the ones I use).

Hint: Username is your account name including the @sky.com, password is the one you use to login to their website.

Is that within K9 mail from the market or the stock email client that comes with your phone?

I use the in-built one. If you're getting "Cannot connect to server" either you have no internet connection (can you browse ?) or you've typed the settings wrong - it's imap.tools.sky.com (and they're full-stops not commas)

yeah I kept getting that error when I set up my API settings but it was just me and my panda hands not typing correctly

You also have to enable IMAP online within your inbox settings...make sure you've done that

I'll try again but I think I have done all of the above - maybe my connection in my office is poor.
I'll try in a different location. God it was so easy to set up to btinternet.com, whyis this so complicated grrrrrrr
