Im in the same boat as you. the phone ships with 1.5. within 24-48 hours you should get the 1.6 update. The 1.6 update give you access to the new Market and new version of google maps to get turn by turn navigation.

I tried the Droid (dud) on V. and the Hero on Sprint. Neither service offers simultanious voice/data. Needed IMO for Nav on a cell phone.

The headphones via adapter is a Major fail IMO with this phone. Can pod cast through my car audio and charge at the same time.

The Samsung behold II is the only other option. Its running 1.5 with no update time scheduled. The touchwiz also sucks on it. I could handle going from 2.0 Droid to 1.6, but could not got to 1.5 and give up the maps. Tomorrow is my 14th day. I'll probably just keep it. I won't give up my iphone though.

i did receive the 1.6 update within the 24hrs and the market and navi is cool.. but still i miss my iphone tremendously. i try to make myself feel better by saying that i will be saving 40 dollars a month for the next 2 years but it doesn't comfort me. the my touch is decent and perorms for the most part well.. its just when you drive a bmw for the past 2 years, driving a honda just isnt the same.
All i know is we better get that damm 2.0 update or im gonna kill someone

I ve been searching online like crazy prior to picking up the mytouch and came to the conclusion that out of all the tmobile available phones the mytouch had the best chance of receiving the update..I went and sent a tweet to mytouch3g and received the following tweet in return

TMobile_myTouch

@BiGMERF We don't have a release date, but please watch here for info when it becomes available. Android? - T-Mobile Forums :)

Sounds like: "We will have the fender edition out first with 2.0, BTW that won't come out till we reduce the regular mytouch inventory."

I came from the iPhone a few months ago.. I had every gen of the iPhone and I finally got tired of paying $100+ per month for it.

I switched to the Mytouch 3G and have not looked back since. I had the same concerns when I was in my 14 day window, but I decided to keep the MyTouch.

As for 2.0. It's not out yet for the MyTouch and G1 so unless you do the developer thing, you likely will not get the 2.0 before your 14 day buyer remorse period is up. I can't imagine that T-mobile will release 2.0 by then anyway. The MyTouch will eventually get the update, just a question of when.

What's in 2.0 that you just need to have right this second? I think the secret here is root your phone and apply the Cyanogenmod. It makes the phone amazing.

not really looking for anything specific but i know its supposed to make the phone smoother and run more efficient. i hav noticed alot of force closures and lag on my touch. i would imagine that future apps that re released would be more likely to have enhancements only found on 2.0, example being google navigation.. not able to speak the direction to the phone but on 2.0 powered droid you can do it. i can only imagine most future apps will be like this as well

At this point, for the MyTouch, the Cyanogenmod really helps. Things are flashy, fast, and the force quit happens fairly rare. For me anyway. You get alot of things that should be in the phone already. Multi touch, file xfer over bluethooth, tethering, and quite a bit more.

I actually canceled my iPhone over a year ago and moved to the G1. At the time, it was horrible compared to the iPhone, so I moved back to the iPhone. I must say that the MyTouch is much more comparable to the iPhone. I also save $40+ per month. It's worth it.

I know it's not exactly the same, but you can still do a google voice search for where you want to go, and then click on the "get directions" link in the search results to open the google nav app. Same with the WHERE app voice search.
