I currently have an evo. Was feeling some cravings for the epic with the slideout keyboard. Anyway they had one at local sprint store so I checked it out.

Phone has an overall cheap feel to it for me. The biggest disappointment was the hard plastic buttons on the keyboard. My fingers kept sliding off them when I applied pressure and you need to push down hard for them to register. Typing was slow and tedious.

The screen is nice but really no better than this IMHO.

Anyway, glad I went to.see it. Now I love my evo even mor-o :)

Before Evo, I always preferred hard buttons and resistive screens. Now it's all capacitance for me. Aesthetically speaking, I like the smooth, single glass surface of the Evo.
The Droid X's physical buttons were very annoying when I played with it.

You do get used to the Epic's capacitive keys. I have no problems with them now. I will say that I accidentally press the capacitive buttons a lot more on my EVO. But it's a trade-off.

I love the keyboard, but to each his own. I also like the EVO. That's why I still have both. And a spare. lol.

I had the Epic for a week. Screen, processor, and GPU were great. Unfortunately the keyboard was a turn off for me too. Slippery and hard to press along with it feeling flimsy. When you press the power button it also slid out a little. It added bulk too even though not by much but once in my pocket theres a difference between it and my Evo. As much as I wanted to love it...it had to go back.

In all seriousness, if the Epic's keyboard slider was more like the original Droid's (ball bearing, very stiff, NO slop), the GPS didn't suck more than a shop vac, and if Samsung's track record for keeping things up-to-date and on-time was better, I would have traded out my Evo in a heartbeat for the Epic. That screen.... *nerdgasm*... that processor *nerdgasm on the floor*

I thought it was decent until I slid out the keyboard. Very sloppy feeling for a new, high end phone. Never even tried the keys.
the droid has the best sliding and best keyboard in my opinion. I havent seen the new droid2 but I really liked the sliding and feel of the first droid. If they made the first droid with evo specs and an eppic screen that would be the best IMO

The Epic is a decent phone and the screen is awesome no doubt, but I ended up with an EVO because the slider mechanism did not inspire confidence and for some reason I just don't like touchwiz. I flip flop between LauncherPro and Sense because I just can't make up my mind which I like better but didn't like anything about the wiz. And I still use my Instinct as an MP3 player in my bedroom and it reminds me of Samsungs past missteps. They are going to have to rebuild that lost trust by keeping the Galaxy S line updated and not drop the ball, not really starting out all that well from what I have been reading. oh well.

I really was dying for the Epic when I heard about it. But after playing with at the store I too felt it had a cheap feel to it. The keyboard was kind of a ddissapointment to me. I thought after having the Hero I would want to have a full keyboard to do my heavier typing on but in reality the Epic's keyboard would just slow me down.

The on-screen keyboard for the EVO is more than enough. And when you turn it to landscape mode you can REALLY fly...

After discovering swype, I will never go back to a hard keyboard. I too was disappointed with the Epic. I really wanted to like it, but the keyboard was really hard to type on and the sliding was really violent, looks like it would break in a year or so. All I want is that screen!

Seems a bit silly that to legally have swype on Sprint, you have to have the phone with the hard keyboard also :)

I'm not saying the Epic is a bad phone. I just was disappointed with the fit and finish, especially the VERY cheap plastic keys.

That is why I went ahead and got the Evo instead of waiting for the Epic. I messed with the moment or whatever and it felt horrible. Even the older touch pro felt like a much better phone so I figured I would go HTC. thankfully my (launch day) phone hasnt had any of the issues with touch not working or the screen coming off.

I went to the Sprint store in town today to look at my upgrade options. The skin that Samsung has put on android for the Epic is awful. It makes no sense at all and looks considerably worse than stock Android. Even Sense isn't perfect, but Samsung honestly just wasted time.

I checked out the Samsung Epic 4G and was far from impressed . I was checking out the display model and the slide out keyboard felt cheap as all git out . Overall feel of the phone was lacking in comparison to the Evo . Granted the Evo has its short comings but Id rather take it over the Epic 4G
