Help WiFi and Pandora Radio

The default sleep setting for WiFi on the Captivate is to turn off when the screen goes off. Does this still apply if one is streaming music via Pandora? For example, I started Pandora last Friday and connected the phone to my HiFi system for background music. Pandora was started while the phone was connected to my home wireless internet router. In all, Pandora was playing for about 5 hours, the vast majority of which was with the screen off. My question is, did the connection switch to 3G/Edge as soon as the screen went off? If it did, then I will have a large data transfer on AT&T.

Just in case, I have changed the WiFi setting to always stay on.

I think WiFi does not fall asleep if there is an active connection on it.
I also believe there is a setting in Pandora to use WiFi only, but really am not sure about that one,
Just go to your address book and "call" "AT&T check my data usage" you will get a text back with the stats. See if your usage grew significantly. Actually it helps to do this daily, you get a nice history of texts with your usage stats as AT&T sees them (and will bill you based on).

You could also dl an program called 3g watch dog or juice defender i think it is , that will kind of monitor your 3g data usage, i am not sure if pandora uses 3g if its started with wifi i would assume it doesn't , but you know what happens when you assume

you could also put the phone into airport mode with wifi enabled. then you're guaranteed not to use 3G or Edge.

I've been streaming Pandora at home for a few weeks now, and I check both with 3G Watchdog and logging in to my account at att.com-- there have been no large data charges, so it's using my wifi even though the screen turned off.

Oh, one other thing-- the wifi/sleep settings have an option to leave wifi on if the phone is plugged in. I'm not using that, but if you're really listening to Pandora over your home stereo for hours at a time, choosing that setting and plugging the phone in might give you some extra assurance. Although as I said above, I'm not doing that, and the phone has stayed on wifi anyway.
