Best Instant Messenger?!

Coming from an iPhone I really like how the AIM app stays signed in behind the scenes with the push notifications and everything. Does the Android AIM app with multi-tasking work well like this too? Does the facebook chat feature work well too?

I always stay signed on AIM as my co-workers all use AIM and thats a central way we communicate so this is important since I work on the go.

I've been using Meebo since it was released, and it's a damn good app. I mainly use it for AIM and Facebook chat, but it supports all the major chat protocols; MSN, Yahoo, MySpace, Jabber, ICQ, Google Talk, Facebook, AIM.

Can you make it sort the buddies by groups exactly like it does on meebo.com? I'm coming from Blackberry and I've been using Beejive on my BB for a while. I'm looking for something that works very similar to that.

Nope, that's the only thing I don't like about meebo.

Everyone I know uses Gmail chat so the Pre's (and I assume Evo's) built-in chat will be fine.

Out of curiosity, on Android are text messages and Google IMs displayed in a single thread like on WebOS? I loved being able to chat with my friends via Google while they are at work on their computer and then keep the convo going after they headed out and just had their phone on them.

No, unfortunately it's not like that, but you can be signed into the gmail at all times and just switch between the two.. Holding down the home icon on the phone is a great way to switch between apps on android.. I had the pre and trust me it is not something that you are going to unbearably miss..

OMG! That's one thing I am going to miss from my blackberry && iPhone! Beejive!!! I believe Beejive is the best instant messenger out there & it sucks that I paid for a user license & now have to give it up! Oh well hopefully they will come to Android soon and then I can use it once again. But for now I am looking for an app similar to that for my EVO!

I hope the come up with an Android app also. However, they seem to be very slow in their development. It took them ages to get to 2.0 it seemed like. And even now, there are issues with it and nothing seems to be happening. Hopefully I can find something really good to use for Android.

PingChat 2.0 It beats everything else

Try it, it is free

No thanks. the last thing I need is yet another chat client for some subset of my friends. I already have to deal with people on gtalk, skype, aim, yahoo, msn, and ICQ.

What we need more of for android is an IM client consolidator, like trillian, etc.

Cerulean Studios’ Blog Trillian for Android

And yeah, there's another thread for this, so..... /end

If you setup groups on meebo.com (website) like Family and Friends and then move your contacts to the appropriate group, it will sort on the mobile meebo app.

I got my Galaxy S 3 days ago and I've tried several clients already. I've tried Fring, Palringo, Im+, Nimbuzz, eBuddy and Meebo. So far, eBuddy has been the best one. I'm looking for an IM that supports MSN, Facebook and Skype but haven't found one yet since they're always either failing on skype or facebook.

eBuddy supports facebook and msn and is really fast and stays in the background for quick access. eBuddy would be perfect for me if it supported skype. Definitely the easiest to set up with facebook.

Meebo seemed really nice too but I didn't like it when it was constantly beeping even when the chat was active. Didn't know how to change it so it would only beep when you were out of the chat. Also they removed the support for facebook so it was not an option for me since I want at least a program that supports at least two of the IMs I use.

Nimbuzz seemed really heavy to me and had to force close it a few times. I had problems connecting to skype constantly.

Palringo just made me rage quit a few seconds after I tried it and is not as easy to use as eBuddy for example. Didn't allow multi-connection with computer and phone at the same time.

Fring seemed fine but lacked facebook and skype so didn't want to use it.

IM+ worked probably the best with skype compared to others I tried. It seemed to be the potential program for me. It supports for MSN, skype AND facebook, which is exactly what I was looking for but I ran into problems verifying the facebook. Also it was a bit slow when sending messages on MSN. Also skype was of course only chat, not calls.

So from these options I chose eBuddy and I'm still trying to find on program for MSN, Skype and Facebook and preferrably support for calling with skype without using skypeout credits, but if anyone knows an app for skype only with calling support without skypeout, please tell me.
