OK, Getting Ready to Root but need help pls.

Thank you everyone for responding to my question of "to root or not". I am rolling forward. I have downloaded the needed files and ready to rock. One small problem: I downloaded the Sprint update so my phone is on version .6. I have downloaded the .5 file on to my desktop but I don't know how to apply it to my phone. Any suggestions? Thanks!

search for "ruu" in fact i believe there are several threads that already have posted links for this. be careful though as i believe it is phone specific. if you can't find it here there's a good chance you can find it on xda.

You need to run the "RUU" from your computer..It should be an executable file. Be sure you have THC sync sfftware installed on the computer first. Then plug in the usb cord to both, and have at it! It will erase everything on your phone. NOT your sd card, however. Your contacts should be saved, if they are all "google" contacts.

oh and btw, they aren't kidding when they say how important nandroid backup's are. it's saved my butt on numerous occasions, from the phone being goofed up to it just being a pain in the ass to go back to where i was.

Sounds to me like you may have a bad download. Perhaps try one of the links above and re-download it?

Just to be sure, you download it to your computer then install it to the phone via USB cable. Again, be sure you have the software HTC Sync.

you know, i thought about that as a possibility...glad you figured it out.

Unable to download asroot2 file correctly (zip?,winzip?) in a format that when included in the tools file is recognized when I am going through the CMD cut and paste process. Perhaps in the morning with a clear head...

Not sure where in the process I did that when rooted my phone. If you hit up XDA somewhere they have a video on there as well as really good steps on how the process should go.
