Root Looking for new a ROM. Suggestions?

I'm sticking with the plain and simple deodexed FRG22d. I've been using it for a while and I am really happy with it. I do get curious about what other ROMs are like from time to time, so now I'm backing everything up and gonna try out UD 8.

Backups are VERY important. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the new ROM.

Chief, I keep hearing you talking about how much you are liking UD 8 and I have to admit you are selling me on it.
Since you were one of the voices that sold me on BB 0.4 and I have had such a positive experience with it, I am thinking about ud 8 now.

You may recall thought that battery life is pretty much my big beef. I am running the kernel that comes with BB 0.4 and I have seen a modest improvement in battery life over stock 2.2 and I am happy. If I switch ROM's and it gets worse I will be less happy.

I also MUST be able to conduct wifi tether without headaches as I currently do, and low bug issues would be nice.

What do you think?

Cheers

:)

I am running UD 8.0 right now and ....to be honest, I REALLY REALLY like it! I'm not switching till BB 0.5(or whatever number) comes out, IF it comes out lol.

@Muab- My battery life has been FANTASTIC on UD 8. And I run wifi tether w/o headaches every Tuesday and Thursday in my bio class because there is no wifi in that building. And so far, there have been ZERO bugs for me...

My 2 cents

I've recently reviewed the newest builds of LFY, CM, and UD and I think you're not gonna go wrong with a single one. If you like simplicity and having a lot of theme options, LFY1.6 is the way to go. I think it's very comparable to BB.4, as it's quick and responsive, but doesn't have much in the way of goodies.

Both CM6 and UD8 are pretty comparable to one another. They're the two most customizable ROMs, and are loaded with tons of extras. I was very pleased to report with both ROMs that they were as fast as the other ROMs out there that tout speed as their strong suit, and are actually faster in some cases.

If I had to choose one based soley on ROM performance, I'd go with UD8. It's the most customizable, slightly more so than CM (even though CM has a couple features that UD doesn't). Also, I experienced better battery life with UD8. You can go to the threads on each ROM and you can find full reviews for each in the original post to help you decide further.

Also, keep in mind there's other ROMs like Simply Stunning, LithiumMod, and Sapphire out there worth consideration.

Thanks you guys!:)

I guess my Droid doesn't like UD8, because it was slow an choppy even after everything settled. Tried reloading it and everything and it was still laggy. Then I tried CM6... ok, but i just didn't like it. Then I tried Liquid Froyo... <HPV>AWESOME!!!!<HPV> Its smooth as ever! Applied the galaxy s theme and now its perfect. (i have a thing for the galaxy s themes, had it on bbv0.4 too!:))
I think this will hold me over until bbv0.5 rears it's bugless face.

Thanks again you guys!:):D

Yeah, I was in LOVE with the gala s themes! But now I went with a simplistic text based theme...love it (On UD 8 of course)

Anyhow, glad you found one you like! It's all personal preference!

Good thread here. My first rom was LFY 1.4, then days later 1.5 came out.. Its sweet..although i dont have any other ROM to compare it wit. oc'd to 1.2 slays and watermark'd... temp gets hot occaasionally and phone resets (but not enough to become an issue)

like what ive heard about UD on this thread. If i perform a backup.. then wipe everything.. and instlal UD.. can I just refresh my backup and ill be right back to LFY 1.6 w/ watermark?

:)

I can confirm that Wifi Tether DOES work on UD8. Haven't had luck with BT Voice Dial yet, it's the only thing missing from being what I consider a PERFECT ROM.

Ok I just switched to UD8 for the heck of it. OK The_Chief wore me down. ;-P I have to say It IS amazing. It's like they added too much customization because I am like a kid in a candy store. I'm sure this ROM will cause me to get divorced. So much stuff!!!!
OK my set up. UD8, ChevyNo1 1.1 GHz LV, LauncherPro, and 928 Black glass theme.
My quadrant scores are consistently lower than with BBV0.4. BB was averaging 1370, and this one is averaging 1290, but seems much snappier, so as with many, I have my doubts about the quadrant scores.
The customizations I have found that you can make will keep me up for days. I honestly don't know where to start. I was extremely happy with BBV0.4, but the itch got to me to try something else. This change was worth it!!!
I will run this for the next few days and barring any serious issues, like my phone melting in my hand, I will hit the donate button and throw this/these guys a few of bucks.
My only concern now is if I am willing to switch to BBV0.5 if/when it's released.
The only question I have is how to change the font color on the "clear" button in the notification area. It wasn't a problem until I installed blackglass theme.

Speaking of BB 0.5... So in May after getting swept up in all the hype of all the roms just pouring out, I root. I find BB 0.4 eventually and it works best from what I've seen (CM works like crap on my droid). But just after I root and get that, BB goes dark. All other roms are cranking out the latest builds of 2.2 and BB is still way way back. Does anyone have any insight on this? Maybe that's what I get for donating but geez, we're talking MONTHS here! I'm tempted to try UD 8 and see how it is. And why not, right?

Pete is a college student and has a real life. He is also throwing a lot of his resources toward newer phones. BUT there are beta testers for BB0.5 and a release is just a matter of time. Meanwhile, BB0.4 has become a relic in Android terms... Ultimate Droid 8 MORE that fills the void while we wait for the next Bugless. I am so impressed by UD8 that I'm not really waiting for Pete anymore! When BB0.5 comes out I'll of course flash it... but UD8 will be my backup and the ROM I may just come back to.
