Hey guys my back speaker of htc incredible is making a cracling noise whenever i get call or listening to music or video since last 2 days i think its busted need to change it but not finidng the sapre anyone out there who know where i can get it.....

on a brighter note, i ordered a screwdriver and a pry tool from them and my order didnt take that long haha that might be because they are in Nevada and im in Cali tho. where are you from??

If you're going to replace the digitizer or LCD yourself, do yourself a favor and get a HEPA filter off craigslist for $30-$50.

I can always spot a home repaired phone/unibody macbook because of all the little crap under the glass even after wiping the outer portion of the front glass off. It's well worth it. You can always wipe dust off the front of the phone, but once you put it back together you're stuck with what you've got. It'll look like either a stuck/dead pixel or the glass rainbow effect if it's a small hair.

My setup is a bit more overkill, I have filters in the intake/outake vents to my room, door seals, and this on my desk. http://rossmanngroup.com/img/clean/clean02.jpg

FWIW, I don't profit from the sale of HEPA filters. I just think it's a good idea on any device that requires you layer something over the LCD screen.

I have a blown loud speaker and would love to buy and replace it. Theres a local phone repair shop that wants $50 to replace it but i rather buy it and replace it myself. Thanks for the great how to video.

I love my Dinc except for the external speaker. I got mine on opening day and I am now on my fourth phone because of blowing speakers. Verizon warrants their phones for 12 months. I have had all mine replaced for free and I am heading there after work today to get a fifth! Yup, external speaker started to go again a couple of days ago. Of course, if you didn't get your phone thru VZW then you will probably have to pay to have it fixed or buy the part and do it yourself.

I've taken apart and re-assembled two different Incredible phones multiple times, so I feel that I'm at least a little bit qualified to comment on the process (although I'm not a hardware techie by any means!).

First, thanks to the OP for posting the video. This would have been incredibly useful had I found it before I started repairing my phone.


There are a few things I feel are worth mentioning:

1. Don't forget to remove any microSD card before trying to pull off the back housing!
2. In the video, there's a hand blocking the view when the large ribbon cables are detached (it also block the view of removing the trackpad...). Now most people will probably figure it out once they get to that point, but there are tabs on the sides of each cable that you're using as pull points. Having a second of those blue tools to pull on both tabs makes detaching the larger ribbon cables a little easier.
3. The video doesn't really show or explain how to detach the AMOLED display ribbon cable. This is the cable on the right side of the phone in the video. It's very short and therefore has little slack to pull back and remove from the connector. In fact, I'm not sure it *can* be removed while the mainboard is still mounted. I found that it's easiest to release all four clamps and detach the first three ribbon cables (trackpad, microphone, digitzer), leaving the display's cable still in the connector (but unclamped). As you're removing the mainboard, release the bottom, left, and top and gently tilt the board so that the display's ribbon cable slides out freely.
4. There may be glue or tape between the display and digitizer and front housing. On one of the two phones I disassembled the display was attached to the digitizer with a sticky black tape. I believe there's also more of this between the digitizer and the front housing/bezel. The layer between the display and digitizer came off easily for me, but others have reported great difficulty in removing the digitizer from the front housing. Many people that watch this are probably doing so for exactly that reason - they want to replace a damaged digitizer. From what I've seen the OEM housing and digitizer are sold separately, so I think the video should continue on to show how to remove the digitizer from the housing as well.
5. Re-attaching ribbon cables can be harder than detaching them, in some cases. Tilting the mainboard into the display's cable seemed to help get that one re-attached without major effort. But while long enough to move around, I always seemed to be at least one hand short or a slight angle off when trying to get the digitizer's cable back into the connector. Eventually I prevailed, but it did take longer to put this back in than it did to take it out.

Again, thanks for sharing the video - I'm sure it will help countless others that need help getting started in repairing their Incredible.

I would have to agree with you on this, their video is awesome on disassembly but i needed it to replace the digitzer and was stumped when i came across the black foamy tape/glue in between the front bezel and digitizer. It took me awhile to get it removed and cleaned properly. They should update their video on showing you that, its all simple up to that point.

Parts for these phones are not as available as stuff for the iPhone or BlackBerry platforms. Don't trust me, ask anyone else whose job it is to source them all the time. Or do some of your own research. Ask OEM source, cbohk, luna commerce, bsd wireless, the places that sell stuff to the places that make guides & sell to you at a markup. They just don't have them for sale.

My theory is it's because there are 5000000 android devices that come out every year. There isn't as much market for any individual part. There are lots of different BlackBerries as well, but they're also forced on people by their employer, making individual models more popular.

Calm down god of the forums i was just commenting on the fact that repair universe hasnt checked this thread to answer questions. maybe you missed the part where i ordered stuff from their website... i do appreciate and support them and their video is very good but some people have a few questions as well. forums are for discussions and dialogue thats why people above are attempting to talk with the started of this thread. go away.

You're being way too dramatic dude. Most people and companies that post in forums do it to get exposure and their name out there. Whether or not they answer the posts above this thread gets bumped up every time there is a new post which gets the site more attention so that's always a plus. You're reading into this way too much man. No one in this thread is getting hostile with the thread starter or being negative in any way.

Sorry, we have not been able to find this part yet. We are however getting new parts for these all the time. We have just got the speaker and bezel replacements.

We will let you know when these come in.

It looks straightforward taking it apart, but you don't show how hard it might be to put it back together again. How difficult is it?

I just replaced the screen on my wife's phone and you're right: taking it apart is a LOT easier than putting it back together. You really need to pay CLOSE attention when taking the ribbon cables out because they're REALLY dicey to put back in. I got it all done, but the internal speaker doesn't seem to be working now so I'm now looking for how to troubleshoot that.

You really need to pay CLOSE attention when taking the ribbon cables out because they're REALLY dicey to put back in. I got it all done, but the internal speaker doesn't seem to be working now so I'm now looking for how to troubleshoot that.

I would actually say putting it back together is easier. If you have the jaws open and insert the ribbons square they go back without an issue.

If you are having trouble with your internal speaker make sure you have it in the correct way round and that the pins are making the correct contact.

Ok so this forum has been great. I watched the video and disassembled and reassembled my phone based on the instructions. At first after replacing the cracked screen, the phone display would not turn back on. Then I attempted again (tightened the connection of the right ribbon wire), and my phone powered up!! I was thrilled and hate myself for being anal, because a few hours later I noticed that there were a few smudges on the inside of the screen. I decided to take it apart again, fix the marks and make sure everything was in place. I did nothing differently but after the screen display would not turn on! I tried several times after that convinced that it was the same right ribbon cable that wasn't fastened properly. I attempted many times to fix it with no avail. The phone powers on, shows the green light, says "Droid" at start-up, even rings, but the screen remains black. If anyone could offer ANY advice I would be very grateful. I know I'm an idiot for messing with it again but I thought it would be a simple fix. I am on my 3rd strike with Asurion. Pleaseeeee help! Thank you so much for reading!

My issue is not with the screen, but rather it's a volume issue. When I put my phone back together everything works great, except that I can't hear anything if I put it up to the my ear during a phone call. The only way I can hear anything is if I put my phone on speaker. Does anyone know if one of the ribbons (and if so, which one) is responsible for this or if there is something else that I might have shifted? I see that there was a response to someone else having this issue. If it is not a ribbon, where is the internal speaker located so I can make sure it is has not shifted. I would appreciate any suggestions or advice. Many thanks!!

Hi,

If you are getting nothing from the screen its usually a connection issue. But you could also of damaged the screen.

First I recommend making sure the ribbon from the LCD screen is fully inserted with the jaw closed again. If the screen is fully connected and you are still getting no image then it sounds like it was damaged and you will need to replace.

I would double check the connections first as this is normally the problem.
