Root Best Eris ROM

So first of all this is my first post in this forum. I've had my droid eris since December now and the only problem I had is the signal bug.

I've been thinking about rooting for a while but am unsure. The fact that the Eris wont be getting 2.2 makes me want to root. If I were to root, which is the best ROM out there that isn't buggy?

I rooted with XTRsense, it's EXACTLY like Sense UI, but super fast, no lag, battery lasts days now, and you can put apps on the SDcard.

Welcome to the forums onilink2005.

If you are looking for a 2.2 rom, you could always check out KaosFroyo, Cyanogen Tazz or Nonsensikal. Those are the three that I have used and can back personally (no offense to you other 2.2 roms, just haven't gotten around to you yet).

As far as 2.1 roms go, there is xtrSense that DFA1 mentioned. There is also xtrROM which is xtrSense without the Sense elements added in. There is White Widow which was my very first rom to flash and I loved it. You also have Evil Eris and many many many more.

My best advice is to browse around the All things Root forum here and the Android Development forum over at xda. You will find all sorts of roms along with people's dealings with them. And never forget to ask any question, be it large or small.

Thanks a lot guys! I was on the fence of rooting and just took the jump. The rooting process was much easier than I thought. I now have the xtrSENSE rom and I notice that it is much more responsive and faster than before! Can't wait to see if my battery lasts longer! I actually feel like getting a Froyo rom now, haha.

Froyo ROMs really do satisfy the need some Eris users express for having the latest OS, the one that is in much more expensive Android devices.

After you configure and tweak your xtrSense ROM to your liking, do a nand backup and download one of the latest Kaos, Tazz or Nonsensikal ROMs:

hey how do you go back to the xtra rom if you backed it up, lets say i backup, then wipe, flash a 2.2 rom, and its not to my liking, how do i get back to my xtrasense rom?? i just rooted my phone last night, i also flashed xtrasense rom, and overclocked it a bit,thnaks for anyhelp, im very excited!!!!

well after doing a NAND Backup, then you do NAND restore to go back to a previous rom. the oldest restore is always at the top of the list. you can also rename them they are stored on the SD card.

Before you flash a different ROM boot into recovery mode and do a Nand backup. Then if you find that you don't like the new ROM you can do a Nand restore and you'll phone will go back to the exactly like it was before you flashed the new ROM.

Personally I always wipe data and dalvik when I do a nand restore, but I don't believe it's strictly necessary.

switching between nands you dont need to wipe anything because the restoration of the nand wipes everything for you.

They are coded by date and time, using UTC times, in the format BDS-yyyymmdd-hhmm. So, if you back up at 4:05 pm EDT on 9/10/2010, the resulting Nandroid will be called:

BDS-20100910-2005

(If you do a Nand+ext backup, it will start BDES instead.)

I usually rename them in Astro to remind me what they are, and, perhaps, why I did that backup.

Just remember, if you do rename them, not to put any spaces in the filename.

Haha, yeah I did just take the leap of faith. It was amazing. I still can't believe how easy it was to do it. I can't wait to try other ROMs and see how they are(Especially Froyo Roms ). Thank you for the direct urls!

I'm having no problems with my camera. But, I believe that there are camera apps available on the market. I hear that Camera Magic and Vignette are good.

Essentially that's the only reason I have not switched to KaosFroyo is the cameras still is not fixed. Ya, you can take some pictures then if you mess with the settings or switch to video mode and back it freezes and you have to do a battery pull. Just not quite there yet.
