Well, I hope this is close enough to the passion to post in this topic. Anyways, here goes. I went into a Best Buy today to talk to VZW and to trade my Droid in on the Eris. I asked the VZW guy the usual ? and got the same replies. "Hey, have you heard of the Passion/Dragon, blah, blah, blah". "Only what I have heard on-line blah, blah, I don't know anything official, blah, blah, blah".

You see, I like others fell for the Droid Band wagon and jumped aboard on Nov 6th, thinking that I would just return it for the Dragon. At that time (the 6th) the rumors were black Fri. or Dec. 1st. I was worried on, I think the 8th or 9th when we started hearing mid Dec. and shortly there after, Q1 2010.

So anyways, I go today to trade in the Droid for the Eris in the hopes to get another 30 days to wait on the passion/Dragon and pay my restocking fee. Well what a surprise when I was told there is no restocking fee, and get this, you can return your phone at BB as many times as you want! You just can't stop your contract after the first 30 days.

So, I will be trading my new phones in until this frickin phone comes out, except I really like the Eris (first impressions).

I thought you guys might like to hear this info, and utilize my strategy of waiting for the Passion to come out.

It's unlikely that you will be able to exchange your phone indefinitely until the Passion comes out. The fact that you exchanged it for the Eris means that you're stuck with that one. Best Buy doesn't have some special exception rule. They're distributors of VZW phones. The moment you activated your Eris after turning in your DROID was the one and last exchange you will be able to make, lest you pay the ETF. As for re-stocking fees, retailers are allowed to WAIVE that fee. Some will give you a hard time about it, some won't and will just waive it. The fact that you didn't get charged the fee doesn't mean it's a free pass for exchanges. You're in the system for an exchange. I hope you're happy with the Eris, because it's likely you will be owning it for a while. This is why I double-checked after visiting with a store that gave me misinformation!

well, I don't know. Either I was completely "misinformed" or you are wrong. This guy said he had worked there for some time and seemed pretty knowledgeable as well. He did say yes you can return as many phones as you want, you just cant stop your plan after the first 30 day period.

Feel free to call a BB and ask for yourself, I'm just trying to tell you what I was told, and to use the info to your discretion.

Misinformation is very probable. I would trust what the store and what customer and technical support told me, not what "Best Buy" told me. If you activated your phone, then it's gone in as an exchange.

Thanks for the link. But that is, as you said VZW dude. It seems that BB has different policies for different things. Such as the insurance policies (they are different co. between VZW and BB) BB doesn't charge any deductible - VZW does. VZW says that their return policy is different then BB and that you need to contact them to get info on their policy.
So is it possible that you can return a phone multiple times with BB and not VZW? I don't know but thats what I was told at the BB store in San Diego.

I was told by the Best buy near me you only get 1 exchange so I went back to my old BB and am giving it a little longer before I get the eris.

Im sure there is a short grace period if you go back to your old phone and lower your plan to be able to get back on an "advanced" device. Who cares about the "system" when it is raking in assloads of money. NYT says verizon admits to making $300 million a month alone in erroneous data charges it slips into customer's bills, sort of like the steal a penny from every bank account and make millions while no one notices. Then the ridiculous new ETF charge on top of the dropping of corporate discounts all done on the sly with little to no real communication.

I called two best buys and their central customer support number and all of them said the extended holiday return period does not apply to mobile phones.

Don't be sorry, dude. I fully expected to pay a restocking fee and was surprised that the guy said on these two phones, no re-stock fee.

As a distributor to another company (BB for VZW) if I could exchange a costumer's phone every month for several months, and get a fee (re-stock) then sure, I wouldn't mind someone exchanging several times a year.

Also the rep was having issues with the "transfer genie" and couldn't swap my pics, etc. off of my SD card so he let me keep the Droid card in exchange for the Eris card, which is a larger card, and I forgot my charger and his mng just kept the plug in and gave me the usb cord for the Eris without the droid's for the exchange.

This store seemed pretty cool and laid back so, I really wouldn't be surprised if they did honer at least one more exchange since the guy did say "return as many phones as you need", but having said that, maybe it is misinformation, in which case I will complain to the mng but not very hard, cause all and all I'm happy with my Eris, and I can wait a couple more months for my other NE2 to upgrade to the Dragon. So no biggie really.

And you should be happy with the Eris. It's a VERY nice phone. IMO, it's the perfect size, Sense UI is great and honestly, I love the track ball. Before I picked up my DROID, I held both in my hand and loaded up the same web pages and there was a slight resolution difference, but nothing to really concern yourself with. All in all, it's a great package for what it packs. It needs a new processor and some more memory and that's what the HTC Passion will bring. But again, it's fiction at this point. Enjoy your Eris and don't let anyone tell you its less or whatever. It's just dummies on here that cause people to think they've bought something inferior. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters. Technology will always get better. While people are sitting with an HTC Passion, when its time to trade in your Eris, there'll be something better and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

I could live with the slower processor in the Eris. It is the tiny screen I couldn't live with. Harder to surf the web and type.

Eh? iPhone owners have been living with it for ages. They're fine. It's not that much smaller. Honestly, you only really pack so many pixels in a screen. The HD2 has a big screen, but really, it's like a tenth of an inch taller and wider. That's not really THAT much bigger. You probably just have big screen envy, but that'll pass. It's a dude thing, we always envy the guy with the bigger screen, TV, nicer car, etc.

Going from 3.5 to 3 inch screen feels a lot smaller to me. (I have the iphone now and always wish I could see more of the web page on it). I find the on-screen keyboard on the Droid to be very accurate because of the screen size. On the Eris, I struggle a little because the "keys" are smaller and closer together. Folks with smaller thumbs may find it easier than I do. There is no right answer here. People like different things and have different needs....

The iphone has been 3.5" for over two years. What else up until recently has been bigger than 3.2" since the iphone hit the scene? The first gen diamond and TP were 3.2". There was the Touch HD at 3.8", but that never hit the states. I'd say the iphone has only fallen behind in screen size in the past few months. Prior to that, it was king.
