Can you tell me what the benefit of these are? I will do some looking around as well to try to find more.

Thx
Mike

LauncherPro Plus - replaces home launcher, adds a dock at the bottom, you can change the # of homescreens you have, you can hide icons in your app drawer, and if you pay for Plus you get some great widgets

WidgetLocker - You can customize your sliders and add any widget to your homescreen

Keyboard you can theme - just create a nice looking keyboard

Tasker - set up profiles to automate your phone, examples:
-when I plug my phone in at night white noise and my clock launch automatically and notification volume is turned down
-when I am in my car and get a text a reply is automatically sent
-I can send my phone a text from any phone and my phones GPS location is returned with battery level and I can sound an alarm on my phone
-I have certain apps password locked so kids can't screw up my phone if they grab it without me knowing
-Tons of others you can set up, very useful

Take a look at my screenshots here: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x/124658-what-do-your-x-screens-look-like-30.html

You can see WidgetLocker, themed keyboards, and LauncherPro Plus with widgets that I have set up on my X

1. Charge it fully
2. LauncherPro
3. Power Settings widget
4. Weather Channel widget
5. Appbrain
6. Fast Web Installer
7. Search Market for games & apps
8. Enable Swype
9. ???
10. Profit!

Don't worry about rooting and installing the leaked Froyo 2.2 either, the official one should be out pretty soon. I'm running stock 2.1 myself, and I'm happy as a Junebug in July! I don't even know what that means....

Waiting it fine, but 2.2 fixes the low speaker volume which was really annoying on 2.1 and having flash is nice.

I also forget, get the real HDMI app so you can do HDMI out for any app.

lol....some folks that got the phone, it had a tab labeled pull. No battery was in it, so some ppl pulled it all the way off thinking it was to be removed before putting the battery in. Its the battery release tab. Motorola made changes to it so now it says Battery Release. Its a chance your phone could still say pull..

But everybody really did already cover what to do after getting your phone, I didnt have anything to add... :(

:p

-Definitely charge the phone to 100% first thing after you get it.

-If you wait for the official 2.2 OTA you may not be able to root the update. This is why most people are running 2.2 now, and will wait for an update.zip of the OTA once it has been rooted.

-LauncherProPlus is amazing. Makes the experience of using your phone so much smoother and intuitive.

Junebug in July? It means your the annoying bugs who nest in my front yard tree. You go near it and all you hear is a hum. Lord forbid you knock a branch and it's a swarm of June bugs. Lol so your as happy as a June bug in July.

Like I said, I don't know what that even means! I live in Oregon, we don't have Junebugs here! Although I do enjoy annoying people, so I guess that works for me!

1. Update to Froyo
2. Launcher Pro Plus
3. Battery Gauge Widget
4. Custom ringtones!!
5. Sports tap widget
6. Beautiful Widgets

Just some of my personal favs. The phone is so customizable, you can play around with it for literally hours trying to get a layout you enjoy going. Heck, I've had mine since launch and I still keep changing mine adding new widgets and all lol

It's addictive...maybe we need to start a support group :p

Totally agree, just to add to that, use ringdroid to make all of your own custom ringtones, alerts, and alarms.

And it has taken me until today from launch day to get a layout that I think I can stick with for a couple weeks, lol. my screen shots are in the "what do your x screens look like " thread on page 30. :)

For those of you who have LPP and Widgetlocker, I assume you are setting LPP as the default home right?

Only reason I ask is because I just got my X and installed both today. I have LPP as home but I've noticed sometimes the lock screen goes back to the stock one and not Widgetlocker.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot to ask, can anyone point me to some louder ringtones for this phone? I know it has this issue but would like to combat the problem for now before the 2.2 OTA comes out.

The only time mine goes back to the stock lock screen is if the phone is locked and tasker launches an app, I haven't found a solution yet.

For the ringer problem, update to the leaked froyo, there really aren't many bugs at all and it fixes the volume issue plus gives you flash now.

LOL, guys asks "What should I do with my new phone?" and nobody but nobody says, "Make a phone call!" I Love it!! :)

I usually make a phone call just to make sure that part of the phone works within the first 10 things. I guess that's old fashion... why on earth would you want to talk to someone when you can text, facebook, tweet, email, or just plain ignore the world around you while enjoying your new phone.

I didn't even think of that, but I guess one of the first things you need to do is activate the phone, which requires a phone call. But the 2 things I do with my smartphones the least are make phone calls and listen to music, so what do I know!
