Question about Droid X

That is how I bought mine, it's nice not being locked into a contract. Plus if something better comes out in 3 months I can get it and sell my Droid X.

If you want to look at it from a logical standpoint, the material costs in the Droid X alone are around $200. The rest is dumped into assembly and recouping R&D costs.

I just got my DX, purchased off contract. (I used my upgrade about 4 months ago to get the original Droid, so had no upgrade available. And, before anyone asks, I upgraded to the X for the bigger screen, mainly.)

All said, my total bill (tax, any shipping, etc...) was $604.00

That is how much it will cost you.

Plus there is a wait for delivery, which varies wildly.

no phone is worth that much.. NO PHONE

...to you. I have a friend who has bought her last 2 phones unlocked from Europe (Nokias, an N900 and an N85 before that I think), and she paid $600 each for them, plus the shipping overseas. She had no problem with it, considers the phones worth it. I personally wouldn't spend that much on a phone (the $200 point is about right to me), but just because we don't think a phone is worth $600 doesn't mean somebody else won't think it is.

OUCH! I agree that is way too much . I paid only a quarter of that to re-up my 2-year agreement. I can't believe they didn't give you some kind of pricebreak to keep you a happy Verizon customer! Either that or just wait until you are halfway through your two-year with the original Droid and then add a year to your contract for the 1-year price ($299) for an X.

Although by that time there will probably be better phones available anyway...
