after a day without 3g

That's why I keep 3g off at all times, and just turn it on when I need it, check weather or email every couple hours. I get 2-3 days of battery life, stock battery.

What's the point of a smart phone that doesn't have data though? I sucked over 2 gb of data last month and am well on my way to topping that. Yes, turning off 3G saves your battery, but then you've got just a dumb phone.

Why's the point of having 3g on eating my battery if I'm not using it though? I'm not looking for an argument, EVERYONE argue with me when I say what I do. I do this to save battery life, this is more important to me than having me weather updated every hour. I can simply turn on 3g and refresh it manually, and manually check e-mail. No one is right here, no need to get into anything about this. you do you, and I do me.

Actually, you have an on demand smartphone and not an instant information smartphone.

To each his own, there's no right or wrong way.

To me a smart phone that doesn't have instant data on it is useless. If someone emails me, I need to know right that second, not hours later. That's why I have a smart phone. I have a smart phone because I want/need data at my fingertips every second of the day. I could get a dumb phone, set it up for email and refresh it manually. I'd save money every month with that configuration.

I didn't take his post as an "argument" he seemed to be just stating his opinion as you were. Mine isn't an argument either. I agree with you, when I'm at home, my WiFi is always on and mobile web is off. Then when I go out, everything is off except regular cell service, and if I want to check anything (weather, mail, maps, navigation) I just turn mobile web on as I need it. My battery lasts two to three days easily.

There's something I never thought of. Now I thought that while I was on wifi it would just turn off the 3g. Am I wrong? Should I go in and turn it off while I'm on wifi?

everybody says shit about how ACD uses his phone in almost every topic; it's getting annoying as hell. let the man use the phone however he wishes. you all who rag on him sound like those moronic vzw store employees when i bought my env touch:

salesman: would you like the $15 a month plan for data?
me: no, i'm strapped for cash right now and have no need for internet on my phone, but if i want it in the future, i'll add it.

salesman: um, ok. then don't even get this phone. here, give it to me. just get a flip phone. there's no sense in buying this phone if you don't use the data package. it's made for multimedia.

me: or, how about, I buy this phone from someone else and not give you the sale and i speak to your manager, or you shut your mouth and stop telling me how to use a phone i'm buying with my own money after extensive research and that i want?

salesman: *rolls his eyes* right ok let's activate it then.

ACD whatever works for you fine. Breathmints whatever works for you fine. Each of us seem to have a different purpose for their smartphone.

Just because someone is not a power user is not a sin. On the other hand just because someone is a power user does not make them bad.

Both of you have stated how you use your phone, what gets me is that a power user seems to be belittling someone who is not a power user.

By the way, what kind of battery life do you get ACD? What kind of battery do you have. Just curious because at some point I may become a power user and I would appreciate any insight you can give me to extending my battery life.

thanks for the post man.
I use the stock battery.
I personally have gone two days right now, and my battery is at 64%. So that should give you a rough estimate. This is with making about 5 calls eachs day and about 20 txts each day. checked email once each day, and refresh weather maybe 3-4 tops each day.

I go about 2-3 days before having to charge at night depending on the usage I do.

Do you turn it off at night? I do, which seems to help. Like I said, I keep the WiFi on most of the day around the house so I get my emails pushed immediately. I'm getting about the same performance as you are. Nice isn't it :)

I guess I've just never understood why people buy smart phones and then use them as dumb phones. You would save money by buying a dumb phone and using an extremely limited data plan. I just opened the My Verizon app on my phone and it shows I've used nearly 3 GB of data this cycle (ends 9/21). I will likely end up way over that before this month is over. I don't consider myself a power user at all though. I don't tether. I don't use my phone as a wi-fi hot spot. I use my phone as a smart phone is meant to be used. I stream media to my phone. I get email on my phone. I surf the web every once in awhile. I check what the weather is doing. This is what a smart phone is meant to be used for. To me it makes no sense to turn off data on the phone on a regular basis. The guy next door to you with the dumb phone has the same functionality and he probably got his phone for free. You paid $200 and $30 a month more than he does and your phone does the same thing. I find the whole thing extremely puzzling. You're spending all this extra money and not getting any more functionality. Why did you spend all the extra money on a smart phone?

For me personally, I would rather have 3g on and get my emails as soon as possible vs 2-3 days of battery life, Its not often that I find myself not having access to a charger for 2-3 days, usually I find myself sleeping at some point or another during those 2-3 days, I find these moments opportune times to plug my phone into the charger.

Why does it bother you how he uses his phone? Mine is on airplane mode while I'm at work for 8 hours a day. I'm teaching, so I don't need to have anything running, and I barely get service in my classroom so it just drains my battery. Maybe your lifestyle dictates constant connection, but not everyone has your personal needs.

The point is you don't have to agree with the way everyone uses their phone, but you definitely don't need to argue about it or belittle other users.

*snip* Everything I say shows that I feel a huge need to consider myself important *snip*
Dude, your argument is so out there, you don't have a clue. So you're saying I should just downgrade to something like a Reality because I don't have my data on all the time? Even though it's a COMPLETELY different type of phone and offers none of the usability I'm looking for that the Dinc does? Yeah, brilliant suggestion buddy! Sounds to me like you're compensating for something by spouting off how much data you use. Congrats buddy, we're all soooo proud that your life revolves around your phone and nothing else!

I do everything you do with your phone, without keeping the data on 24/7. Are you telling me that you don't go 30 mins without looking at your phone during any given day? If so, get some help. "When someone sends me an email I need to know right when it comes in" riiiiight  Unless you're an on-call neuro or cardiac surgeon who holds peoples lives in his hands, then an email can wait 30 minutes. Talk about an extreme feeling of self importance
