After owning the phone for a couple of days I would like to say Hi. I have a lot of experience using the old HTC Magic starting with Android 1.1 > Android 1.6 Now I have Android 2.1 and eagerly awaiting the 2.2 Froyo update. I have good knowledge of phones and will try and help out where I can :)

HI! Glad you signed up! Feel free to post! :)

OK i used to be a lurker for about 2 weeks , until i saw this thread !!
i have been de-lurkefide ( if its even aword )
as to why so late ? i don't know why! i guess i was waiting for a kick in the a$$

de-lurkefide (mwah ahahaha! I have a new srabble word now!) Sorry for the kick! I hope it didn't leave a mark! ;) Welcome! I look forward to your contributions! :)

I have the Galaxy S on Bell in canada and think it's pretty awesome. I want an extra battery and the external charger though. I would also like to know when the Froyo update is expected to drop. I hear sometime this month, but haven't heard anything specific.

Welcome, Canada person, ay? :) Glad you signed up! :)

can you describe what trouble your having more specifically? are you rooted?

Hmmm... so basicallly.. my wifi wont work. it connected to my home network fine for the first day or so.. now whenever i turn it on it says it is unable to scan.

i dowloade an app called Wefi to see if that help, when i use the app it turns on.. tries to scan and says it is unable to find anything.

i was reading on here that it is a pretty common problem and i am wondering whether i should take the handset back to the retailer as i am inside of the 14 day period for malfunctioning handset...

I'm a newbie to Andriod and this forum. I am from Melbourne, Australia and
after having Nokias for a long time last week I upgraded my Nokia E71 to a Samsung Galaxy S and it is totally awesome!! Although i was a little overwhlemed at the beginning and had no idea what i was doing i am slowly getting the hang of it all. ive never had a full touch screen phone before so its a very new experience for me.

Still trying to condition the battery, atm (cos i cant stop changing settings and looking at the pretty screen :p i am only getting about 24-27 hours out of a charge. today it has used 20% in five hours, and i am going to see what its battery life is like when im not on facebook or social networking.

If anyone can give me any more tips on battery it would be great

If you haven't already loaded the handset with lots of app's and local contacts you might want to consider doing a reset of the handset (App drawer -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset). Be advised that this will wipe everything from your phone so backup what you need first.

If this resolves the WiFi problem, slowly and carefully re-add the app's that you previously added (checking periodically to make sure that you don't lose WiFi access again). It's possible that something you added to the phone fouled up wireless access. And again I remind you that a factory data reset will delete everything... backup what you need before proceeding.

If this doesn't help then it might be prudent to return the handset for replacement.

cheers bud, i was thinking about doing that but then i read on these forums that there was maybe a bug with the wifi on these handsets? is that not the case?

also.. just to save me searching my phone for hours can someone confirm how to backup my contacts onto my sim.

also what is the best backup app to use? not that i have all that many apps or snything that i cant afford to lose. but i figure it wont hurt anyway?

Would start by reading/posting in here:

Usually helps to hear what others have tried and what has worked for them (if anything). Usually one of the first things people suggest is a factory reset (even tech support would suggest this). Could be something simple like firmware or it could just be a bug in phone. No way to know until you try a couple things:D
IMO appbrain is the most painless way to 'back' your apps up. Just saves a list of what you have installed. Can use a desktop/laptop to browse apps then send to the appbrain app on phone for installation.

ps: if you factory reset and problem persists then see about updating router firmware, if that doesn't work get phone replaced:cool:
