Canadians!! LG eve on rogers!

New to the forums... hi all!

So anyone interested in the new lg eve? I've been waiting for rogers to come out with a new android phone for a while, as I'm kind of hesitant to buy an "older" android phone like the magic or dream, and I'm kind of disappointed that they've come out with this lg... While I don't know much about the hardware, I've always had nothing but problems with LG phones.

What do you guys think? Buy the eve? Buy the magic or dream? Wait for something better? I haven't heard anything about new android phones from rogers, and the hero will only be available on telus...

I have the Magic, and I love it, but I was looking at the LG Eve as a potential phone for my wife. Looking at the specs on Rogers web site, however, I notice that it says the Eve only has _150 MB_ of internal space, compared to the Magic, which has 512 MB. Why so little? Can the Even store apps on the SD card, unlike the Magic?

Edit: I just rechecked, and _my_ HTC Mgic (from Rogers) only shows a total of 295 MB of internal memory, but the Rogers site says "Up to 512 MB of intrnal memory".

Does my Magic actually have 512 MB of memory, all but 295 MB of which is used by the OS I suppose?

I'm considering getting the Eve. Only thing is it appears to be running Android 1.5, I'm not sure if rogers or LG plan on updating it to 2.0, and it appears that no one has rooted it yet. Other than that the phone has everything I want. Also it comes with 2GB of memory, more information on the phone can be found in this video, specifically at 2:04 when he starts going through the settings. I'm hoping to be able to install cyanogenmod on this phone or some other firmware eventually, and despite running an older version of Android, LG has added some nice eye candy to the UI and some multimedia improvements that you can see here LG Eve From Rogers Wireless I have yet to see android running on other devices so correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Hey there guys.
I GOT THE LG EVE !
I really, really, really love it.
I'm an X-iPhone user and I'm glad I made the change. As awesome as the OS for the iPhone is, It's WAY to sheltered and doesn't have any great apps that really grab my attention.
The Android OS on the other hand, oh boy forget about it.
If you guys have any questions give me a shout, I just picked up the phone over the weekend and I've been playing with it ever since.
And yes, the Eve comes with a 2gig stick, but it's not built in, and yes you can save apps and other things to it, I've got it full of emulators and roms :)

I'd like to make a comparison video with my Eve and my iPhone and toss it on YouTube, let me know if you guys are interested !
Later.

I bought the Eve a couple of days ago. I'm a basic user, hoping to have the option of tweaking but not sure if I can do much if I can't root. Although, I enjoy having it, I experienced one main problem. After a while, the phone becomes sluggish...perhaps because all my apps are on internal memory. I did d/l an app that ends all active apps and that seemed to fix my problem. Perhaps a bug in 1.5?

I'm not sure if it's because this is a Rogers phone or not but it's quite slow booting up if turn off the phone...at least 2 mins for the homescreen to be useable.

As for the Eve receiving an Android 2.0 update? It's hard to say. From what I've read, it might not happen but if we all complained to Rogers about this, it might just happen...I'm trying to be optimistic ;)

I just received mine last week, I am totally in love with it, It is a great design and has tons of features and apps, and with the new OS on it there is going to be thousands more to come, I have been playing around with movies on it, so far I have Zombieland, Avatar, Family Guy on it, and it plays them flawlessly with great picture quality, The only think I didn't like was the lack of games but with the Market there is lot's to choose from, The feature I wish it has was being able to put your own games on the SD card and install them, It wasn't availiable but I dugg around and found a app on the Market called OI File Manager which gives you full access to your Phone Storage and SD, so you can browse the folders or make them, and also store some games on the SD and use it to install them, It works great. I also found a player that is supposed to allow us to play other formats like Xvid, it is located at Mobilesoft
But other than that I hope that Roger's can get the apps for this phone up and running, It would be nice to see some new Firmware and Android 2.0 updates to download. But for now I am content with the phone, Roger's had a great deal on it. It came with the phone, USB cable, AC Charger, 2GB SD card, Nokia BH-804 Bluetooth Headset which works excellent on it.

Try a application called OI File Manager from the Market, It is a great app, it allows you to browse your SD card or Phone and you can delete folders or make folders or simply search for things on the SD like pictures, games ect, I downloaded it so I could install games from my SD and it works like a charm. It also has a lot of other features to.

Ok i dled apps from andriod market that were saved to my phone. How do I save these to the memory card? Can u run apps of ur memory card? Can you dl stuff from the market to your card?

Canuckchick: You can not currently run apps from the SD card. Google says they will add this feature in a future version of Android.

At the moment you can only install/run apps from the internal memory, however the size of the app files are so small you aren't like to run out. I have about 100+ apps currently installed on my HTC Magic, and I still have space available.

Yes, all you need to do is go to Settings and then click Applications , under there you will see Manage Applications. Just Browse through the list and remove the Apps you don't want, just be careful not to delete anything important. LOL. It make is very easy to uninstall the apps to. Just click it and it pops up with the uninstall buttuon. I myself have downloaded and installed a lot of apps and then deleted the one I didn't like, the only thing is make sure to keep a eye on the SD card for a lot of the apps make folders and after you uninstall them the folder is still there. I just go in and delete it.

does anyone know of a way to get the updated firmware for the android phones?? There has to be a way. If it is available in the states then there must be a way to get your hands on it and apply the update to our android phones. It really peeves me off that Rogers is not supporting it.

@Brunswick: Yes, you would have to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Please don't ask how here, you can search the forum and find lots of threads about rooting your Android phone.

Please let's keep this thread on topic for information about updates to Android on the LG Eve.
