Home Camera Security System, Monitoring on my Android Vibrant. Reccomendations please.

Hello, well changing some security stuff, and going to install a new camera security system. Looking for night vision, and dvr recording. Most important, I need monitoring on my Vibrant.

I wan't to be able to monitor on the go, using my Android Device.

A company named "Q-see" claims you can monitor the security cameras on your Android device, but reading reviews of Q-See, it appears they may not be that great.

Anyone use a super high tech security system, which lets you monitor on your Vibrant Android device?

Spoken to a few security companies to get quotes, but none of them could answer my monitoring on the Android question.

I know its possible, Q-See does it. Any reccomendations of a good camera security system would be great. Thanks!

This is interesting. I'm not sure if many companies really support such a feature. If lucky you could find a 3rd party app. I can't imagine how tough it would be to program something like that.

Ya, Q-See already lets you monitor on Android devices. I just haven't read great reviews on them.

You can probably hook up a computer with your surveillance cameras and hook all the feeds to ORB.

Then you can log on to the orb website and monitor from your android. There just won't be any "alarms" going off on your phone but you will be view live video feed.

Try it with a webcam first and see if it works .

axis.com is a good place to find IP cameras that can be viewed via a Vibrant (Android). If you want cheap, go with the Q-See, Axis is professional grade stuff.

How much is Axis? The q-see systems are about $1200.

So,

Checking around on Amazon and the axis website and it just looks like you need the camera and a switch to connect it to. The cameras range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand each depending on what you want. They also have software to monitor more than one camera on the same screen if you want as well as other hardware for recording.

It loks like you can get away with spending only a couple hundred or several thousand depending on what you want to accomplish exactly.

Why not use justin.tv to stream it live on the internet. you could view it at anytime on your phone or computer and the video stream gets saved in your account page.

I streamed stuff today from my phone to the web live today for fun. Pretty cool app on the market.

So yeah try streaming live from home to access anywhere or even phone.

You log into the DVR via the web using an IP address or download their dedicated app through iTunes, Blackberry store, or Android Market. The apps are free but of course, the DVR & camera purchase are required.
There are also 3rd party security companies in business that charge you a monthly fee to have your camera streamed theough their servers. You can set the cam up so when little johny gets home after school & disarms the security system, the CCTV cam is triggered and video is captured and emailed to you or you can just have the CCTV cam set to Motion activation(instead of relying on the security system being disabled).

If you don't want to deal with security pro's and markups etc then try to find one of those DVR's on Ebay or the like and save yourself some cash.

Unless you're already set up with a safe room to secure your DVR, they're going to steal that too. Even if they don't get to your DVR, is the video quality going to be good enough for the cops to do anything with it? I figure it's better to get alerted realtime and have the cops on their way the second your phone gives positive confirmation of a break-in. You can do this on the cheap.

Axis gets my vote... I went with the 207W, paid $299 around 4 years ago somewhere online, and it still runs like a champ. I actually use it wirelessly and it never once needed a reboot, which is very uncommon, trust me. Read up on Linksys and other typical Fry's brands and everyone complains about random lockups and reboots anytime they try to use it wirelessly. I've toyed with my share of them and they're all garbage, especially Linksys. It'd be nice if the Axis had a servo, but back then motorized ones were a lot pricier. It does motion detection of a user-defined area of the frame, emails screenshots when motion is detected, uploads video feeds to a remote FTP site... I can log in and get a live video feed (up to 30fps @ 640x480) or screenshots, depending on which URL I use, already bookmarked on my phone. Mine doesn't have an IR-sensitive lens unfortunately, but I'm sure they have them by now. That was easily remedied with motion lights.

Axis, as with multiple other reliable IP solutions, is definitely an option as well for sure. Axis is a very well known brand in the industry.
Most major CCTV manufacturers have IP based solutions nowadays.
If you do go the analog route tho & are concerned about a DVR physically being stolen(this happens from time to time but not all that often), you can secure the DVR in a lockbox but of course, that's an additional purchase as well. There are even DVR's out there now that are mounted in regular utility boxes and are wall mounted, say, in the basement by the breaker box etc so stealing it is more challenging.
