How many shots does Verizon give you?

If you buy a phone , return it in 30 days and get another and that one isn't to your liking; are you stuck with it?

Most times you are stuck with that phone. But I've heard of people testing the phone for 2 weeks, and then another for 2, or buying a phone off contract and paying a restocking fee if they don't like it and return it. I've also heard of people using a phone for 30 days and activating an old phone on the line for a period. Then when they buy a new phone they have 30 days again. Or it could be luck of the draw.

Also, say if you try it out for 30 days and you don't like it...so you return it and they reverse your upgrade date...so then you wait and get another device like a few months later with your upgrade...but if you return this one within 30 days, VZW will NOT reverse your upgrade date. Does this make sense?

I've never heard of this one, but I can see why. Otherwise you could have people abusing the system to be perpetual "test drivers" of the latest and greatest devices that are released, but never committing to the contract extension.

Last year, i had the BB tour....hated it took it back got the EnV touch...useless junk. Threw a fit and thats how i got my droid. So do some complaining and your good to go.
Both in store and via *611 it really does depend on who you get. Some reps will work with you on issues like this. Others won't which makes me question what the official policy is.
Just today I went to a corporate retail store to make a change to one of the dumb phones on our family plan. The kid there said I could not because I had exceeded the number of changes I could make this month's billing cycle. I was like what? So I walked out the door and called CS and sure as sugar they did want I needed right over the phone. Ridiculous

I've heard of that policy before. I believe you can swap back and forth between smartphone and feature phone only 3 times in a billing cycle. Whatever phone you happen to be on after the 3rd change is the phone you are stuck on till the next billing cycle. It gets messy and complicated fir Verizon to prorate and credit your account each time a data plan is added and removed.

if you get a phone and bring it back and get a diff phone you pay the restock fee and then yes you are stuck with that phone. now the work around with that is get the 1st phone. if you dont want it return it.. wait a week and get the other phone. then like the previous person said its not considered an exchange.
as far as the plan changes you can only make 3 price plan changes in one billing cycle before verizons system will lock the account and not let you change anything.

There seems to be a lot of confusion of the actual "official policy". Let me clarify:

30 Day Worry Free Guarantee
This is for new AND existing customers.

You are allowed to return your device within 30 days of purchase. A restocking fee of $35 will occur.

You are allowed to exchange a device within 30 days of purchase. A restocking fee of $35 will occur. You are allowed 1 exchange within a 30 day window from your original purchase. (This means if you buy a phone and return it and wait a week, it is still considered an exchange. ONLY after 30 days would it be considered in the system as a return).

**Side note, if you purchase your phone online or customer care and return/exchange via online or customer care you will NOT be charged a restocking fee. However, if you purchase your phone online or customer care and return it to a retail store you will be charged the restocking fee.**

Yes, of course there are many work arounds. But I believe the OP needed to know the actual policy.

Now as far as the multiple plan changes in a bill cycle:

The billing system will allow 12 actual changes within a bill cycle. Here's the tricky part. Customer service and retail store uses a different system. Retail store will allow 3 changes and customer service will allow 3 changes. But, don't forget about online self serve. You are allowed 3 changes there as well. And....theres one more. Indirect locations (walmart, local agents, best buy). They use a different system. You can change 3 times in that billing system as well. Now, obviously doing more than 2 changes will make your bill a nightmare. And getting someone to fix that mess will be next to impossible.

Now on the ESN (serial number) changes:
You can switch ESN's as MANY times as you want. The systems lock billing on the 3rd swap within a bill cycle. BUT, you can run into serious issues here. Lets say you do the following: Env3 then Droid X, then env3, then Droid X. Well, the system will prorate you for 9.99 twice and Droid X twice. You are billed in advance so be prepared to be almost "double billed." Although the actual current feature you were charged for the previous cycle was the 9.99.

I post all of this so that the OP will have the "official" policy. Again, there are many "work arounds".

Hate to open an old thread, but with all the new 4g devices coming out I felt it was relevant.

There is NO limit on how many returns you do, just limit on exchanges.

You can get a Bionic, not like it, send it back. the next month, you can do the same. Your upgrade date will continue to re set however it will re set back to the day you bought the first.

EX you had an upgrade of 1/1/11. Got a phone 3/1, returned it. Your new upgrade is 3/1/11

they will only retro an upgrade date on the first return but theoretically you can return as many devices as you want as long as you do it the following month, so that would be 12 devices.

I know this because I have returned 2 phones to VZW online the past 4 months, and a 3rd to a retail store last month. My upgrade is still valid. I tried the bolt, hated it. tried the charge, it was ok but nothing I wanted to lock in to. Then I tried a Droid 3.

Now I just ordered the Bionic online. Upgrade went fine, 259 after my discount. And I will have 30 days to try this as well. If I sent it back, my upgrade re-sets to 9/8 from 7/26, which is totally meaningless.
