So is there a general consensus on swyping? I think it looks pretty cool and would love to try it out sooner or later..

However, all that glitters is not gold.. what do you guys think of it?

I've seen some reviews state they "prefer" tapping but, like the option.. and most people seem to appreciate that it is an option even if they don't really use it.. So what do you guys think?

Haha, the thread title made me laugh, a lot.

Anyways, I only like swype in portrait mode when I'm restricted to one hand. If I can use both hands, I'm faster than when swyping. I hate swype in landscape mode, I've been using it since February and just have never been able to tolerate it in landscape mode. It has to do with the Spacebar spacing.

Swype made me regret bothering with a phone with a qwerty keyboard. I'd been so unhappy with the virtual keyboard on the Eris that I used for a couple of weeks that I insisted on a physical keyboard. My Slide came with Swype, and once I got used to it I haven't used the keyboard at all; it's just there adding weight and thickness to the phone... :p

it looks interesting.. I want to play with it x.x

*Edit*

Do downloaded versions work as well as versions that come built in? for instance if I got an atc aria and downloaded an app for swype would it work as good as another phone that came with it pre installed?

I haven't used a phone that comes with swype but it seems to me like it works just as well. I have never had any problems with a downloaded version (original leaked ones or official beta.)

I only use it in portrait mode as well. It felt a bit gimmicky at first but I gave it fare dues and after having used it for several weeks going back to using a standard virtual keyboard feels very slow now. I guess I just gradually got faster and faster over a few weeks to a point much quicker than I can do with a standard keyboard.

My wife (who also has a Hero) was standing next to me the other day when I was sending a message and she said 'what the hell is that!' I think she might give it a go seeing how quick it was, I never showed it to her before as she would have gone back to the standard keyboard after 2 times of getting frustrated by Swype.

i like the concept but its too humid where i live to use it. its great if im in a air conditioned building, but the second i step outside into heat and humidity, my finger just doesnt slide well at all. not sure if its me sweating, the screen sticking more, or a combo of both, but just doesnt work well in that situation

I flip flop... I regularly visit a *certain site* where some people host videos and whatnot (full feature films, some before they hit theaters) and it's a flash site. Swype doesn't like working there for the chat section... so for that I just use my stock keyboard. Other than that, swype in portrait is the way for me on an Evo.

I don't believe anyone should text and drive for any reason..

With that said.. there are people who can talk on the phone while driving, and those who can't. There are people who can text, and those who can't...

With that said, I love fast cars and I love phones.. I don't think the two should ever mix.
