Root ROM question from newbie

so I tried 5 or 6 different roms of various degrees of sense retention (skyraider, jager, cyanogen, virtuous, ruby etc...) yesterday. i'm on pageplus so the power button data toggle that sense brings to the table is a godsend. the sense music player is also much better imho, especially on the lockscreen. pretty much everything else sense is bubbly designed counterintuitive bloat to me: the keyboard, the email app, the dialer, the messaging app. i'm a big fan of chompsms and launcherpro and had a setup i loved on my droid.

SO, is there any rom you know of that is mostly vanilla but retains the aforementioned sense music player and data/3g power button toggle but has the android dialer and email app?

thanks so much for your time!

and i'd really like to be without the battery/ram-sucking sense bloat as well. i trawled forums for most of the day, so i feel like my question is unique, again i do appreciate any advice. thanks!

After trying various ROMs myself, Sense doesn't have "battery/ram-sucking bloat". It was the same whether on a true Vanilla ROM or a Sense based ROM.

why did you bother posting this? i was asking for advice and input related to finding a ROM. in my experience reading through the forums and using my own phone consensus seems to disagree with you. many thanks for trolling on in and correcting me with your opinion rather than saying anything helpful.

I think calling him a troll is over reacting a bit. sabrewings was just giving you advice, like you asked for (whether you agree with him or not :p).

But yeah, r0b1t's made it clear he wants a non-Sense ROM guys. I'm sure there are plenty you can suggest :)

that wasn't advice, it was an unsolicited opinion. i wasn't asking if people thought sense had battery/ram sucking bloat. i meant when i said bloatware the bloatware that is installed ALONG with sense. i figured that saying sense implied that. cityid, app sharing, footprints, amazon mp3 etc. i asked for specific advice and he simply disagreed with one of my statements without offering anything substantive or helpful. it's like walking into a conversation at a bar and telling someone that in your opinion they're wrong and then walking away. is that not trolling? is there another word to use for that? someone needlessly wasting their own time?

Oh man just chill. You'll get more help being polite and losing the ego. It serves no purpose. I doubt anyone here is qualified to say what is and isn't a waste of someone else's time.

obviously not a waste of your time to behave as though you're parenting me. go outdoors. honestly, mayhaps if you don't have something to say ABOUT WHAT I ASKED THEN WHY BOTHER POSTING IN THIS THREAD? i would say that is indeed a waste of your time. and of mine. i have been polite, but i don't appreciate this sort of fickle discourse. i asked a specific question. i didn't ask for chiming in about how i asked it, which was indeed gracious and polite. cheers troll #2.

I'm not sure what is up, but I have noticed a sharp upturn in people being short with one another in the root and rom threads lately. I would like to politely ask everyone to step back and take a deep breath and realize that on forums like this when we are communicating with people we don't know, and in print only, without the benefit of true facial expressions and subtleties of voice infections, it is very easy to be misunderstood by someone and very easy to misunderstand someone. Let's all drop undue pride and just try to help one another. I have been guilty of this myself at times so I'm not trying to lecture anyone; Just trying to work toward a better understanding.

EXACTLY. i asked a question and got one helpful answer and others just randomly opining. maybe people shouldn't take their opinions of a poster's question personally?

Perhaps a reminder of what the forums are here for would be a wise idea.

Behavior

Good Eggs: For those of you who are being helpful, contributing nicely, and are respectful to your fellow members – we thank you! We applaud those that resist getting sucked into fights and flame wars and all that stuff. Keep it up! However – please DO report trouble users/posts/threads. This is very very important. We cannot read every thread here, there is just no way – and we rely on the community to to help us weed out the trouble users.

Also the TIP US button is NOT for reporting trouble users. There is a "report this post" button below that. Use it. Please use TIP US for news tips - leads, etc.

Bad Potatoes: We are initiating an all-but zero-tolerance policy on the "poor behavior" issue. You are encouraged to debate, even if they are heated debates – that is fine.. but do NOT get downright mean to your community-mates. Name calling, being overly condescending, carrying disagreements across threads and starting more fights.. all that kinda stuff has got to stop. Everyone here needs to keep their cool and remember people come here for help and to be a member of the community and don't want to have to sift through flame wars to get the info the need.

Be respectful to everyone: Do not be hateful. Do not flip out if someone disagrees with you or has wrong information. Agree to disagree. Do not hate on “noobs” for having questions. Even if they don't search. Just don't post if you have a problem with it. (Though, the new threads may get merged with an old one. More on that later.)

It's simple, really – be civil to those around you. Save the smart-ass comments for when they are actually and clearly “ha ha funny” and not “damn - that was rude.” If you don't have something constructive or nice to say - don't say it.

More reminders will equal in a "vacation" from the forums.
