Root Getting that bloatware off!!

Sorry if there is a thread about this somewhere out there, im just unable to find it, or get answers that i need. question- i have unrevoked 3 and i want to know how i can get all that bloatware off, is there an app or is it something that i have to go digging and get it all off, or a rom or whatever. any help would be great thanks.

Actually - it's pretty easy.

First - if you like, you can keep copies of anything you like on your PC using the Titanium Backup Utility for just those apps your targeting.

Next, within Titanium, goto the Backup/Restore tab, find the offensive app, just tap the name - it will give you the option there to Backup - or in red - Wipe data and Un-install.

That's all there is to it. (Took me a while as well, I kept trying fancier things in Titanium.)

You can also use the adb tool for this, and you'll find various adb scripts at XDA to blow away all sorts of stuff using it.

I, however, recommend being conservative and taking your time. Stick to the bloatware - and note well that your free Titanium only allows one backup at a time - so - kinda make sure that you keep a backup history on your PC/Mac/Linux.

AFAIK You can't remove any of the applications that came pre installed without rooting.

Yeah - I kept Sprint TV and used it to keep up on the World Cup at my desk - and I just don't give a lick about Facebook or the Amazon MP3 store - not one lick.

Personally, I think Facebook is simply a malware vector, but with 500 million users and a projected 1 BBBBillion by the end of the year, what do I know?

And by the way - yes, so far as I know - this requires root. I recommend full root with nand access.

When someone tells me they've used unrEVOked I too-often assume that they followed that method to root.

I don't know that unrEVOked alone will do that for you.

Anyway - at some point, I'll probably tear out more if I decide to stay with the stock rooted rom. For now, I'm just happy to task clean away Footprints, Friend Stream and Peep. For now.

PS - You really want to look at the all things root area at the top our forum and follow your nose from there to the XDA dev site. That's where all of your root questions really get answered.

If anyone's using a Mac and needs tips how to translate the Windows instructions to root, let me know.

You can't remove the sprint bloatware with unrevoked. Unrevoked gives you super user access, it does not give you full system access. You can "uninstall" the bloatware but it comes right back because you don't have the access to actually delete the files.

I tried to put titanium on, i guess im not rooted enough or something not to sure, but when i tried to run titanium it ask for busy box, so i installed that then busy box told me it didnt have the nand unlocked, or unable to remount, any suggestions?

i flashed the rooted stock 2.2 rom and have tried removing all the bloatware with root explorer and titanium backup and they are still there..anyone know what im doing wrong?

I'm using Titanium(my phone rooted), however it seems like not working. When I uninstall an application, my phone reboot immediately, then I still see that application in both Application Management and Titanium Back up/restore list. Just like nothing done.

Please advise

You have to have a full root.
And then flash a ROM like fresh, they come uninstalled already, and any apps that you DO want, you open up and install from a folder.
BUT, you have to have a full root...

Anyone who rooted via the old unrevoked3 does not have NAND unlocked, and that is why your phone is not saving your changes. You will need to fully root your phone. If you flash a stock 2.1 ROM, you can use simpleroot in my sig. Make sure you have it check for updates before starting. Or, if you prefer to do things the really long way, there's a procedure in the sticky thread that shows you how to do it from a purely stock 2.2. It involves downgrading to 2.1 and then applying the old unrevoked3 and the newer unrevoked forever.

Easier to just flash a stock 2.1 ROM (build 1.47.x is preferable) and then you can either simpleroot, or you can try the unrevoked path.

There's also a new unrevoked3.2 that was recently pulled. This shows the most promise, since it's a one-click root from 2.2. If you can wait a few days, this would be the easiest way to unlock NAND.

I rooted my phone with unrevoked3 downloaded 2 days ago, so, I suppose that's the latest one. By the way, now I can remove app by reboot my phone into Recovery mode, then choose "partition menu", then mount /system, and use adb shell

If you used unrevoked3.2, you have NAND unlocked, so you actually have more options to write to /system. You can let your phone boot up into the OS like normal. From there, plug in your phone to your computer with debugging on. Then just run adb /remount. That remounts /system read/write. then run adb shell.

You can also use Root Explorer if you don't want the hassle of being tethered to make changes to /system.

And my fav: install QuickSSHd along with DynDNS. Then, you can ssh in wirelessly to access the shell. You can use SCP to transfer files wirelessly.
