Moto Droid Gallery Video

Some people care, especially given that the DROID is being marketed as a direct competitor to the iphone. However I'm thinking that the lag vs. iphone could be due to iphone not having as high a resolution as Droid, and who knows what background/foreground processes are active on the Droid, given that iphone is not a big multitasker.

Personally I don't understand why people get hung-up on multi-touch, but everyone has their requirments. I'd never want, nor expect an all-in-one device to perform at similar levels as a dedicated device (camera). I would have been happy, and not returned my DROIDs, if it just performed better as "a phone" (poor reception).

Yeah that the superfast droid cant even handle basic photo viewing as fast as a 2G Ipod....

Why are you even on this forum?

I did not look at your post history, but I have noticed some of your posts the last couple of days and it seems that you really do not like the Droid and you truly enjoy the iPhone. I am just curious why you even post. I do not want this to come across as an attack, as I am truly just curious. I am interested in what motivates you. Thanks.

As for the picture viewing abilities compared to the iPhone, I use a real camera for pictures that are important to me and do not keep thousands of photos on my phone so I do not have the "problem" shown in the video. I just know that I have used several versions of the iPhone (not mine) and I did not enjoy the inability to customize it. This is what I enjoy. I do not want a device that a three year old can use, as I am much older and would be very bored with such a device. I need a level of difficulty that makes me think about what I want to accomplish and the ability to proceed in various different directions.

I am not bashing the iPhone, it is a great device. I just do not want one myself. I enjoy tinkering with my equipment and making it do what I want, even if it doesn't do a few things as well as another device. Overall it makes me happy, which the iPhone does not.

So if your curious, the pleasure of tinkering with things is what motivates me.

this really isnt that big of a deal, but on the droid all media is stored on the micro sd correct? and not knowing what kind of memory the ipod touch has what if the ipod has faster memory when the ipod accessing the photos?

Not only that but im sure the memory chip is directly hooked up with the circuit board in the ipod.

The only thing I agree with is, the Gallery App. sucks BAD! I can't even open it without it completely locking up my DROID.(requiring battery pull)

However, It is probably my fault...I think I may have corrupted it somehow when I first started playing with mine (adding every app. under the sun).

When I use other photo viewers (like Astro) The are no problems.

I am happy with the one-handed operation of the DROID's photo viewing. I only have to tap in one spot on my screen to get to the next pic. (2 taps, at most)... as opposed to swiping my fingers across the width of my screen, hence smudging a larger area. (and sometimes getting stuck, mid-drag)

2 taps, to zoom in (with one hand) as opposed to grabbing the phone in my left hand (or placing on a surface) only to drag 2 fingers across the phone again.

No Thanks.

By the way. On the DROID, I can view the next pictures as fast as I can tap...which is a lot faster than you can drag. It also requires more energy to swipe. (for me, at least)

He's a troll. All he does is troll around and bash the DROID. From what I gather, he doesn't ever keep a phone. Trades them in every 30 days. He has some weird animosity to the phone. He's basically been doing that all over the board.

Hey bro, touch not sensitive? How about trying to touch on an actual icon? Ever consider the fact that the DROID stores the photos in higher resolution and needs to render those photos in higher resolution compared to your iPod? How about the fact that the photos are stored on an SD card? C'mon man. Real world test? Laughable!

Ummm because I own the Droid and want it to be what they advertised it to be? If you don't raise your expectations then these handset makers will never rise to them.

Dude i have those 6 thou on the Touch i was only demonstrating a fraction of that capacity on the Droid.

the prob is the 3 yr old can use the deice that is more feature rich and capable than the device you were sold as being more capable than the device the 3 yr old is using.

there are plenty of times something happens that are important to you and you dont have a "real" camera around. Currently the droid fails for many of those picture/video taking and viewing situations.

Ummm. yeah.. when you set up your photo sync for the ipod it gives you the option to store photos in their original resolution. It is not rendering them in the original resoultion thats why they are called thumbnails... You know the things that are low resolution renditions so you can quickly scan and find what you are looking for.....

Guy in video opens folder which says 6,403 photos...then in next sentence, guy in video says...I can scan through literally 100's of thousands of photos...funny.

Typical response.. obviously it shows how many photos and I meant to say hundreds or thousands. You caould see scrolled 6,000 photos in a few seconds where the droid was struggling with 700....

What the heck is your beef with the advertising? It's like VZW promised you the world and gave you a patch of grass. VZW can hardly be faulted with their advertising and have been consistent in only saying what the DROID does.

The commercials didn't say: "Want to take night videos? The DROID does that!" Did they? I think you're expectations are way to high. You have to understand that things like on-board cameras are going to have compromises. That's why you should NEVER expect to use these cameras to win any photo contests.

And I think you're confusing your response in this thread to another DROID bashing thread you posted. This is about how the phone scrolls through its gallery. Keep your bashing threads straight!

The screen bro... is a higher resolution. More pixels to render. In combination with the other things mentioned bro... SD card transfer, etc. C'mon man. You gotta do better than that.

Your an idiot, i came out and said what everyone knows. Why in the hell would you need to scroll that dam fast and cant even see what the hell your looking for. Look hard enough and you find stuff. Dumb ass post sheesh

Umm because when you open an album you may want to go to a specific timeframe and if it takes you a crapload of time to scroll down and then you cant even see the thumbs at all until you stop and wait for them to load that is idiotic....

A lot like having hundreds of folders in outlook converted to labels in gmail and then to find a label you have to scroll way down in the the gmail app because it doesnt provide a coarse scroll handle, so to get that particular common sense feature you have to download K9 just for that....

Of course you prob wouldnt have folders or labels for your email because you probably just use your phone for texting and playing 2nd rate games....

Hey, bruceo, my home computer has problem rendering thumbnails from my photo folder especially when I scroll down really fast. Do you think I should update my CPU to the one that's in the iPod so that that they'd render faster? Since you're an expert on how CPUs render thumbnails from memory, can you enlighten us on the differences of how Apple's on-board NAND flash memory enables it to access its info compared to standard flash memory cards like those found on the DROID?

While your posts are 'interesting', I'm not going to bash you. Just going to ask a simple and completely serious question.

Why don't you return your Droid, and go get an iphone? You obviously want to. So why don't you? You seem to be absolutely miserable w/ your Droid. Why don't you return it? Asking seriously.

LOL... Faster than a racehorse taped to a scud missle. They forgot to put in the disclaimer that it is flying through a ocean of moleasses. Oh they prob did put in the discalimer it is just down there hidden in micetype next to where it also says you get an $350 termination fee, erroneous charges, reduced corp discount and updates that will come after your trial period has run out....:D

Lol uh ok, i wont get into verbal gymnastics with you. I was taught "dont argue with idiots cause they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience " that said i have a 3g and 3gs and the Droid. They are all good phones but your constant badgering is getting old real fast

My ETF is $175. :D And my Gov't discount hasn't changed... still solid. :D And my bill has always been ludicrous, but that's the same for all wireless providers. As for the updates, I'm glad they're at least tackling the issues.

As can be garnered from my overall posts but in summary. I dont like AT&T's plans. I don't like apple (much of my opinion garnered from my experience in the video prod world) I spent many frustrating hours modding my Mogul and subsequent touch pro to actually work as advertised but always still ended up failing miserably at even the most basic tasks, frustration which carries over to the Droid which is far better but still fails in so many ways that it shouldn't especially given the way it is/was sold.

Coming from a crappy Mogul and Tocuh Pro i have no real great love for HTC, But the Droid with HTCs apps would actually make a magnificent phone and from what i can tell the HD2 with android instead of winmo would be my dream phone, but that remains to be seen. What I don't get is why all the good handsets always go euro and rarely make it to the US. Hopefully that will change with this new direction that Sprint and VZ have been going with lifestyle centered handsets.

I just dont see anything i have posted as being invalid and the only time i would feel like someone was assuming i was a prick is if they were blinded by the same fanboyism that they accuse the Apple guys of being. i can ASSURE everyone that I am generally unbiased when it comes to this stuff. I just want the stuff to work as advertised and expected of devices in this class at this day and age.

If it fails a little in retina scanning for secure access or facial recognition or speech to text or any other new and cutting edge feature that is acceptable, but (not specifically referring to the Droid)failing in common sense ergonomics, functionality, or basic features that have been in place long enough in varieties of handsets to be considered expected standards should not be acceptable.

Same thing goes for a lot of stuff. I get pissed off everytime i get a new device and all the bluetooth accessories dont work correctly or the same way. WTF bluetooth has standards. Basic stuff... like... Clear audio within 30 feet, Stop, play, pause, Vol up/dn, etc etc. Why do some work and others partially or dont at all but all have the bluetooth logo? Its just nonsensical and negligent IMO. As I have said before, if these guys ran airlines they'd be crashing planes daily.... And for you guys to continue to flounder and make excuses for them is just old, but i guess i'm in the minority here....
