Help Sudden horrible battery life....

Well today I went to lunch, when I got back I checked my phone and it was down to 70% battery life after 4 hours of no use. I checked Spare Parts, it showed the phone as having only slept 50% of the time, and something called "init" had been using the CPU for a little over 2 hours and the phone was very warm (~100f according to my battery widget).

The battery manager (I'm running 2.2) showed Android OS as using around 60% of my battery life, so I rebooted the phone and went about my day.

Minutes ago, my phone told me I need to charge it, only 7 hours after it was at 70%, it is now sitting at 15%. Once again I checked Spare Parts and my phone has been running 75% of the time since I rebooted it. I once again check the battery manager and it shows Android OS using up around 75% of my battery (again). Spare Parts yet again showed "init" as having the most CPU usage since I rebooted my phone.

Anyone have any clue what "init" is in terms of Android OS? Any way I can better diagnose the phone? Anyone have any clue what could suddenly be causing this when it didn't start until today?

The only thing that has changed in the past 2 days is an update for LauncherPro, an update for a game that I rarely play, and an update to AppBrain. Other then that, my phone has had almost no usage for the past few days, and it suddenly started doing this today for no reason.

im no expert but try out the system panel app. tells you what apps or systems are running more than others. helped me. i still have a short battery every now and then but now i know how to fix it.

Will the lite version work? I don't think so given what it says the paid version says, but I am not willing to buy an app just to help diagnose the battery issue.

It once again shows the Android OS as the highest battery drain right now, but when I view it there is no way to tell what the cause is...also Spare Parts is showing more network activity than normal, with Android OS around 70KB received, is that normal for 2 hours of the phone mostly being sleeping?

ive heard people say theres a problem with the gps so i keep mine off unless i need to use the navigation. try that. im not sure what the difference is between the lite and full versions and the only spare parts app ive seen in the market is one that was posted by someone other than the original developer. i had huge battery issues when i got my DX. try playing with some settings. do you use an app killer? i found that was one of my biggest drains also so i uninstalled it and ive only seen improvements. system panel has a built in app killer but its not automatic. how much do you use your email? i only use mine a few times a day so i turned the auto sync off and that too has made a difference.

I run 2.2 which has the GPS issue fixed, but I keep GPS disabled anyway, so thats not the issue.

I do not use an app killer, I found running one didn't make any difference in my battery life, so it was somewhat useless for me to run.

I use k-9 mail setup in imap so emails are pushed from from google account to my phone. The connection is always active, which likely uses more battery than the google gmail app setup on a long sync time, but I have been using k-9 since I got my phone and it has never made a large dent in my battery. Even without this recent battery drain issue, k-9 has been showing no more than 5-10% of my battery drain (over the course of a day, which is around 15 hours of light usage that usually drops my battery no more than 60% at a minimum) no matter how many emails I get.

What else is affected by DataSync? I would like to disable automatic datasync, but will that affect apps like AppBrain that autosync once a day and what not? Or does it only affect default apps that sync such as the gmail app?

K9 email using PUSH does NOT keep an active connection open all the time, in fact thats the whole idea behind push. UNLESS you are setting up polling/pull that can keep a connection up.

After a few weeks of running 2.2 my battery life keeps getting better, but it took about a week for it to settle down.

Doesn't push keep an active connection so it can receive and alert you of an email as soon as you get it?

I have been running 2.2 since it was first released (I grabbed it before it was ever removed from any sites) and, while I have changed to a deodexed and bloat-removed version since then, the bad battery life didn't start until yesterday. I will update today if it does the same and hopefully, with systempanel, be able to tell what it causing it (I can check CPU usage of each app, but as its the free version it doesn't save the history, so if I reboot my phone, it loses the info it collected), which should tell me what has been using the CPU the most. The best way to check is by opening each app info screen in systempanel to get individual usage, but thats still better than nothing at all.

Experimented with several factors (the usual suspects: running apps, battery mode, etc) and determined it was a simple battery gone bad. Got a new one (warranty) and now all is good. Back to normal battery life.

Had the same problem when all of a sudden, after having the X since it was released and no battery problems at all, it starts draining to zero overnight. Experimented with several factors (the usual suspects: running apps, battery mode, etc) and determined it was a simple battery gone bad. Got a new one (warranty) and now all is good. Back to normal battery life.

I am at 9 hours 40 minutes today since I unplugged the phone. A few texts, a few emails (back and forth) and a 5 minute phone call today and my battery lasted MUCH longer today than it did yesterday. Yesterday I didn't hardly touch my phone except to read a few emails, and it was down to 40% or so, today, with heavier usage, it is sitting at 80% still.

No need for an app to show you what is using your battery.

Like I mentioned, I used the battery manager, it showed Android OS as using the largest amount of battery, but there is no way to tell what process from Android OS was causing the battery drain, not very useful considering how much is covered by Android OS. But as mentioned, today I am at 80% battery life after 9 hours 40 minutes, which was nearly enough to have my phone dead yesterday with less usage than it had today.
