Must Have Android Apps

i cant sync my itunes unless i mount the evo as a hard drive and manually drag and drop. What app is good for us mac users who want to sync itunes and ical and iphoto?

For iTunes, the guy who said TuneSync is right on. You have to make sure you get it configured correctly, and filling your phone can be a bit slow, but it's really slick once you get it running. Automatic syncing over WiFi!

iCal can easily be synced directly with Google Calendar, which will then sync to your phone automatically. I don't remember off the top of my head how to do it, but it didn't take long to figure out...just google something like "iCal Google Calendar sync" and it should be pretty easy to work it out.

Not sure about iPhoto, sorry...

I havent seen 1 mention of - GROOVESHARK ! I used alot of music streaming apps, Pandora, Slacker etc ... Dosent even come close. I like being able to restart a song, or go back to the song before last, or hell, see the upcoming SONGS when you enable the "radio". From what I can tell, if you pick 1 song, hit "Radio" it plays similar songs, same as Pandora. HOWEVER you can tag songs for download to offline play. Which means you have all your favorite songs, no stuttering, no worry if you have signal on a long road trip. You can search for an entire album, and download every song on it with 1 click. Or search other peoples playlists, and download songs individually or as a whole! I personally like to hit - Offline songs > play all > shuffle. Also keeps/displays album art etc too, you can turn the phone landscape and scroll through all the upcoming songs. Did I mention you can restart songs and/or go BACK to songs unlike Pandora? :p If theres any other music player out there, that does all this, with the option to stream music and/or download LET ME KNOW! PLZ! Thanks!

If you ever wanted to have a secret phonebook because you had a jealous boyfriend or girlfriend this is the app to have. It doesn't allow him or her to read your text to a specfic person. When your a person from your secret phonebook calls you it even erases it from your phone history. It has given me my life back!!!!!!!!

Wow you seem like a shady character or you need to get rid of your spouse. That kind of untrust usnt healthy.

Can we all stop posting our complete list off apps and stick to must haves, it will keep this thread much more useful

yes, please. and tell us what it does and why it's the best for that job.

Making meaningless noise on the internet is easy. Useful posts take just a little effort.

some of the posts in this thread have been extremely useful, thanks!

Kindle from Amazon. If you think this medium is too small, think again. I just burned thru a 500 page book on the Evo Kindle and enjoyed it thoroughly.v my enthusiasm for reading has returned. Obviously, you pay for books but they give you about the first 5 chapters free to see if you like it. Anyway, I am pretty stoked and downloading books like crazy.

What are your must have apps for the awesome HTC Evo. Here is my list.

  1. Advanced Task Killer - Close unwanted apps that maybe running in the background.
  2. Aldiko - eBook reader. Comes with a bunch of free books.
  3. Astrid Tasks - Best task list manager I have found so far. Has options for tasks list and reminders.
  4. ASTRO - Best file manager for the phone and SD card.
  5. AudioManager - Has a widget to control all the audio options for the phone in one place. Must have app if you put your phone on silence / vibrate only / custom audio profile for alerts and notifications.
  6. Foursquare - App to publish your location information based on nearby establishments. Pushes the same info to Facebook and Twitter.
  7. Google Sky Map - Shows off a real-time view of the stars based on where you point the phone. Best app to show off to your friends with the "WOW" factor.
  8. Meebo IM - All in one mobile instant messenger with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, GTalk. But uses a lot of battery if used continuously.
  9. Mint - All in one money manager to track expenses etc.
  10. Network - I use it to turn off the GSM radio and use CDMA only. This trick has improved my battery life.
  11. Photoshop.com Mobile - Have some fun with the pictures taken with the phone. Must have to show off to your iPhone fanboys.
  12. ShootMe - Phone screenshot grabber.
  13. Shopper - Google shopping app which has a built in barcode scanner. Runs a Google product search using pictures or barcode.
  14. Ustream - Live video broadcast phone to their website.
  15. XKCD Viewer - View XKCD cartoons and the hover over text.
EDIT - added 3 more to the list based on suggestions:

  • Dolphin HD Browser - Added to the list since it is faster and more option packed than default browser.
  • Compass - Neat app to show off the built in capability.
  • ScoreMobile FC - Something to keep track of the World Cup 2010 going on right now.
Instead of just listing the app, tell us what it's for.
