Multi Touch during landscape and Swype During Portrait?

i love swype and use it most of the time. Sometimes when I email I want to use the multi touch keyboard though. Is there an app or someway to have it change input modes according to the orientation of the phone?

I wish, hope one does come. Fatest way ive found is to just Long Press on the white box and pick input method.

Maybe someone else has some better recommendations, but I see that changing the input method is on the todo list for Tasker. Perhaps if you shot the author an email expressing interest in that feature it would help the development.

EDIT: I found it has a setting to pull up the input method dialog, so you can set a profile up that'll pull up that dialog when you rotate the phone, but that takes just as much work as just long pressing and manually choosing the input method.



EDIT 2: I found this on XDA, it looks like it would do what you want if you're up for some hacking.

darn. i'd rather not mess with my phone. i prefer keeping it how it is haha. thanks for the info though. a nice app would be nice haha

Wow, thanks for posting that. Would prob never have found it otherwise. (because I wasn't looking for it)

Have it installed now, and its working great. Was a little clunky when switching between keyboards when you already have it up in one orientation at first, but seems to be running faster now.

Installed it with Root Explorer. Easy as can be.
If one of you decide to install it this way, heres what I did:

1. DL to your SD Card and Install it like normal
2. Open Root Explorer
3. Copy the KeyboardManager.apk to /system/app
4. Change the new KeyboardManager.apk in /system/app permissions to match the others (User: Read, Write / Group: Read / Others: Read)
5. Reboot

Then just open the app and set it how you want.

Glad to hear it worked! Guess we can say "theres an app for that" now
