I've been plugging my phone into my car audio and running my slingplayer while on my long morning commute, in which i travel through a few areas that are out of 4G coverage. When this happens, the feed fails and doesnt start back up till i reconnect the slingplayer.

What I've had to do basically is turn off 4G completely so I stay on 3G all the way.

Anyone notice this on other applications on EVO (or the Epic, I guess)? Anyone having issues with pandora, hulu, subsonic, youtube, etc?

I remember back before the release of evo at the big new york event they said transition between 4G and 3G would be smooth but my personal experience has shown it not to be while streaming.

Discuss, discussers.

yup yup. 3G actually works quite well for slingplayer, quality isn't as high but of course im not watching video while driving because i want to stay alive so i can enjoy it :D I just listen to 'red eye', my favorite talk show that doesnt really need video to enjoy

Hopefully they just continue building out 4G until houston is completely covered so I can avoid this. Or maybe firmware updates can help passing off between the two signals.

hmm i wirelessly tether too. ive done it two ways: slingplayer on the phone, and wirelessly tether it to my laptop and have it playing on the browser. now that i think of it, it might have been smoother when i just played it on the phone as opposed to the laptop tether, which was definitely bad

I think the reason for the disconnect is because when your Evo switches to 4G (and vice-versa), it's actually getting a new IP address. So it's not just a "hiccup" in the data stream, it's a full break and then reconnect with a new IP.

Yes, this would be the reason for the interruption of data flow. If the app is written correctly (which any data streaming app should), the client program (Sling Player) would pause the player and perform retries for a period of time to establish a new connection with the new IP address/network. If it's not written correctly, the user has to stop the player and manually restart it in order to establish the connection themselves.
