I have an upgrade and am considering doing thoe following:

Buy fascinate $299 - $100 rebate = -$199

Get Free Incredible

Upgrade wife's Eris to new Incredible

Ebay fascinate = +$450

Ebay Eris = +100

So I should pocket $350 bucks with a free Incredible to boot. Anyone do this?

Usually for existing customers activate = extend contract. I already have 2 data plans so even if I have to actually activate the samsung on the spot, I can switch it back via *228.

I'm dropping into the Verizon store after work tomorrow and will find out and post results.

"Free" is the great misnomer with these devices, since you pay $720 for data fees to get the free device and this is a new line of service, unless contract is near a refresh point.

If you have two lines coming up for an update, the offer is nice. Anyone else will discover the great line from the rock group, Rush: "You can't get something for nothing, you can't get something for free!" ;)

Stopped by the Verizon store and it does require you use 2 upgrades unless I added data to one of my kids lines and that's not happening :p

They said if I come back in a month they will move one of my upgrades up a couple months and make it happen provided the offer is still available which they told me it most likely would be.

If you have 2 upgrades on a family share account this is a sweet deal. I will post back on it in a month.

Well if you have the upgrade from your kids lines available too you can still do what your thinking. You'd have to activate it on that number but you could immediately roll it back to their standard phone and drop the data package. The only thing that would change would be the ETF on that line would be the monster smartphone one instead of $175. but you'll be pocketing the cash anyway so either way your money ahead. I was going to do that with the dinc but i just couldnt let go :)

A couple things. First, the BOGA special on the fascinate is scheduled to run until Sept 30th. Spoke with a verizon rep over the phone for a half hour on Sunday night, asking questions, and moving my brother's account to my account so we could take advantage of the BOGA offer with the Fascinate. The lady didn't know if it would be extended past the 30th.

Secondly, unless they changed their policy in the past year and half, you don't have to maintain the data plan for the fascinate if it is not associated to an active line. 1.5 years ago, I joined a family plan with my mom to take advantage of BOGO for storm. Got two Storms for $200. Both were activated with blackberry data plans. One week after they were activated, my mom couldnt use it, so we had her phone number switched to my old phone which she could use. Verizon then removed the blackberry data plan because the blackberry wasnt active. We were charge for one week of data usage for that phone. My mom remained under contract for voice, but no data. I unlocked the extra storm, sold it for almost $400 on ebay. So basically, I got a storm, made $200, and only had to pay for a week of data on the free storm.

Therefore, unless they've changed their rules, if you have two accounts available for upgrade, you could get two fascinates, maintain a data plan for a few days to a week for the second fascinate, and then inactivate the fascinate and put that number on an old phone. No more data charge until you would activate the other fascinate again.

To get my BOGA fascinates, my mom's (primary line) was able for early upgrade, but my line wasn't (had two more months left). So I merged my brother's line over, upgraded his and my mom's line to fascinates. Once activated, I unactivated my blackberry (stopping blackberry data), added my mom's fascinate to my line, and reactivated my mom's old phone to her line. So I now have the data fee for fascinate, but no longer a blackberry data plan.

Point is, that once you have the BOGA lines activated, you have freedom to move the phones around on your account, and if you wanted to keep one of the phones as a backup, you shouldn't have to pay data on it, if the phone is not currently connected to one of your phone numbers.

My husband was told in store that he had to wait another month for his upgrade. I called a csr and they were more then happy to let me upgrade right then over the phone. Have you tried ordering over the phone? Maybe they can get you upgraded sooner.
