they do, are they that lazy that they cant even give any of there new phones a real name. they just take the name of an older phone and just add the letters "HD" or "Z" to it. and the Desire HD and Z dont even resemble the original Desire is any way at all. also same thing with the Mytouch HD, wich is just a Mytouch 3G slide with out a keyboard. speaking of the Mytouch 3G slide that is another crappy named phone, why couldnt it have been called just the Mytouch Slide instead? did they really need to have "3G" in the title when 99.9 percent of all other android phones have 3G support? and now the Evo 4G and Epic 4G, are they going to have to make EVERY single upcoming 4G android phone have "4G" in the name too??

and another thing that pisses me off is the "DROID" name. what idiot at verizon decided it would be a good idea to just rename all of there major androids to have the word Droid in front of it? why couldnt the Droid Incredible and the Droid Eris just be called the HTC Incredible and Eris just like they were originally planned to? and HTC did not even make the original "Droid" phone, so HTC shouldnt even be naming there phone Droid in the first place, ONLY motorola should. what is next? are they going to release another phone for verizon and call it the "HTC DROID Incredible HD"? this is so stupid i think

HTC are not the only company in the world to bring out different/upgraded phones with related names they also frequently don't and create new names for products. The Desire was a smash hit for HTC it's understandable they want to continue and expand the brand-name.

The EVO and EPIC have 4G in their title because it is a major selling point (the EPIC is also not made by HTC so what exactly is your point?), they are currently the only 4G phones. It is also likely that Sprint had more to do with that naming than HTC.

Also the Droid line was a brilliant move on Verizons part, one of the key failings of android is lack of public awareness, the Droid brand helps link the more visible hardware with the less visible software. Again it has more to do with Verizon than HTC most likely.

And finally, why do you care so much? You seem very angry about some names that affect the product in such a miniscule way.

The Desire has been a phenomenally successful handset, clearly HTC want to make the most of that by offering two variants; which is all they are really. One with a keyboard (business users?), one with a larger screen.

As long as the new Sense is released for the existing Desire then the consumer has a choice of three great phones to suit their needs, all with the same fundamental functionality.

If they dont't release new Sense for the Desire, I'll be pretty irritated! I've only had it 3 months.

It's usually the successor phone so why would you want to name it someting completely different anyways? And yes it does look like the original one. The Desire looks like the N1 with sense and the Desire Z looks like a thicker Desire do to the keyboard. Desire HD looks like it to. Just has more screen and that black belzel around it like all the other desires have and then that gray soft touch coating around that.

And the Incredible phone was named a droid phone because all of the android phones are droids for verizon. so no matter who makes them there brand name is droid. so does it matter? no. are you going to dislike the phone because of this? I hope not. the point of droid is to give it your own name and differ it some how from other carriers that have android phones. cause most people will see android and droid the same. but if you have people loving verizon all they will know is droid so they won't think about other ANDROID phones. so it makes perfect sense. it's a business thing. i think you should get to understand it. and overall why is this a thread to discuss?

and like somebody already mentioned it's not htc naming everything. htc has their own names and the names change once carriers get them. so it's the carrier at end result. they may name it something close to htc's name or give it a entire new name to their liking. if you go to htc's product site where they have their phones and then go to the us one they don't have the same names. it makes perfect sense my friend.

exactly and I hope they do so for the evo as well. i mean the desire hd is just like the evo just with some internal makeovers. and a better outside.
