Release Date:
9/16/2010

Update Method:
Available OTA + Retail + OEM Tool

Version History:

* Includes Media Hub application from Samsung, various EAS related issues, and other performance enhancements.

I know it's not incredibly specific but I thought I'd share it either way.

All this info is from another site from a guy
bigge4380

Anyways right now samsung.com is currently unavailable due to an upgrade.
Please come back in a few hours to experience our new site:thinking:

Well i hope this is the big update we all been waiting for:rolleyes:

Many issues? Like what? I don't think it's bad for an initial release and am sure the little niggles will be handled by the 2.2 update. Even gps for many is 'working better than expected regardless of the numbers the tests give.

And it should be jnust the hub update as jim noted.
I think everyone is waiting on a GPS update, as well as a fix for the capped upload speeds for 3G.

I personally want a fix for the headphone jack on the dock, but that won't come until 2.2. Beyond that, I think the phone is perfect.

The jack fix has been known to be in the 2.2 update. The big gps accuracy thread hs many show really good tracks results despite the whining about how the accuracy number error shows it's not so good. Regardless, performance is very good for many.

The speed issue I forgot about about so tack that on. So again, the many issues?

Capacitive buttons, gps, microphone issues,3g capped at 150,battery draining,2.2 froyo, usb sync to pc,voice dialing or texting with bluetooth,4G de-registration when activating Mobile Hotspot

All these are many known issues gathered, from several popular forums. And im pretty sure ,there are more:(.
Regardless if the issue is small or great,
To me these are many issues.
I don't know about you ;) But all these issues need to get fixed or epic is going back.I have 20 days remaining before the contract kicks in.If these many issues do not get fixed ...bye bye samsung. And I may be going back to evo.:(

Now knowing that the samsung update(revenue maker) was just the media hub and a update to the 4g so that You wont get 4G de-registration when activating Mobile Hot spot to connect your galaxy tab....infuriates me
However the phone is still couple weeks old ,so im still hoping for some updates

well I've been known to be wrong on occasion, but.....

lack of froyo is not a bug or an issue on a 2 1/2 week old phone. Throw in the bluetooth/texting/dialing and audio out on the dock and those two are a taken out of the equation.

Hardware issues aren't something thats taken care of by a firmware fix. That's called switching your phone out for a good one which many have done with the Evo too for one reason or another and are doing with the Epic.

And again, GPS is not a widespread bug as I've mentioned and gleaned from the big gps thread. MANY have verified great gps results with footprints which is more accurate than nav.

battery draining? any different than any other android phone including the Evo that can suck up juice like a vampire? now if you said slow charging, that'd be a different issue entirely.

USB sync? Actually thought I had that problem but some cable switchouts cured that. Again, not a widespread problem. A select handful having an issue does not constitute a major bug.

Do remember, this update was probably finished quite a bit ago and just out for testing. To think they would be solving more issues that might have only been uncovered since launch is not really logical. And "now knowing"? This update has been known for awhile. You're blaming them because you "just" learned about it? Not their fault you're late to the game.

The fact there is any update and any fix is still better than themselves and HTC had with the Moment and Hero.

Froyo has fixes ,for issues that we have on epics right now ;)
Gps works for me on google navigator and sprint navi but not on google maps ..its way off on that one:rolleyes:

And its not accurate when taking ((some)) exits on highways it still thinks your on the freeway. And actually im on the frontage road at a intersection waiting for it to reroute. But it does not because of the inaccuracy.
Now it does not do it often but it does it enough for it to be an issue.:D
Lucky me I have a tomtom and an iphone4. And i have absolutely no problems like this what so ever.

Usb sync  I have 4 computers tried different cables. Messed with all the settings, downloaded drivers from samsung blah blah blah etc. Only one of my computers witch is a dell presicion, witch I use for my 16 camera set up it worked on and I used the original cable with no samsung update.
And still to this day, I have to transfer my movies from my main computer to the presicion, through my network and then from there to the epic...THATS BS i should not have to do that:eek: and im not the only one.
And you say its not wide spread?? Not everyone is affected but what about the ones who are?

Slow charging!!! Wtf All the phones i have ever had never charged as slow as the epic WTF!! I even charge the phone with it been powered off and it still slow to charge. The Evo I had for 25 days did not drain battery that fast and it charged faster. And I did not have to return it 3 times either.

By the way im on the 3rd epic because of the capicitive buttons and keyboard wobble and the 150k 3g cap witch that problem cannot get resolved yet .
And as far as been late on the game? I knew about the update. Which was just suppose to be the hub . I was just hoping they would have some fixes witch they did, but only for the 4G de-registration when activating Mobile Hotspot .That fix and update have allot in common:rolleyes:
Oh i forgot to mention the update came out but but many can not download it forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032

Like i said the epic has issues and me and many others are awaiting for fixes:cool:

I agree with you that the phone just came out couple of weeks ago.
And let me add that allot of people including my self want these fixes before there contract kicks in....

I just never had a phone with so many issues ,when comparing to my other previous phones.

The ones that irritate me the most is the 3g 150 cap, gps, sync, mic, and voice dialing with blue tooth. These are serious issues for me .
Witch I use allot on a daily basis and are/is my personal preferences :D
Sadly my epic sits on the side while my iphone4 is my main one for now.

Many issues? Like what? I don't think it's bad for an initial release and am sure the little niggles will be handled by the 2.2 update. Even gps for many is 'working better than expected regardless of the numbers the tests give..

The GPS has four problems. None are changed by the update.

As far as many issues, Epic has about an average nubmer of bugs. I count ten, I now Sprint is workign on seven.

Some are severe, like 3G speeds, 3G battery usage, GPS problems. As we knwo several features and applications are missing, as we know and have discussed because they rushed the phone and had no time to integrate certain standard Galaxy applications into the slider. That is not a bug but it is a significant "issue"

The Epic GPS is workign worse than expected. One would expect it after so many smartphones properly integrate GPS, Epic GPS would work properly and a problem Samsung had with Omnia, inability to properly remove expired cached GPS data, would not be repeated.

Where the **** is the update? I'm getting angry. Especially since people over at XDA are claiming that the OTA improves the GPS significantly: http://androidforums.com/samsung-epic-4g/178533-new-update-fixes-gps.html
Once you understand the main GPS bug affecting every Epic phone, you udnerstnad hwo they can;t say it is fixed. a reset from an update -- or any one off cycle of the phone -- is going to mask the problem because that in itself has and always has removed the cached GSP data. Since the problem is old expired data in the Cache causing lack of fix, they are seeing a false positive on a fix.
And again, GPS is not a widespread bug as I've mentioned and gleaned from the big gps thread. MANY have verified great gps results with footprints which is more accurate than nav.
Wrong. It is widespread in fact it is 100% of all epics. If the video camera would not do 720 you would not say video has no bug becasue of all the people who had not tried it? Everyone who trys to get a fix without cycling their phone, or doing some behaviour that flushes cache, and turning of GPS in the interim will experience a falure once ephemeris expires. it is n 100% consistent bug.

You are just misrepresenting the testing.

Well that's depressing. I only have 2 problems with my GPS... which aren't too major I guess. It works perfectly when I start it from my car. I have used it 6-7 times to get to somewhere I've never been before... but always with a circle of inaccuracy around me. I would also like to be able to get a lock from indoors like I can with my EVO... and the inaccuracy can confuse the GPS for a few seconds on roads that are really close together.

odd. I haven't updated or reset my phone once. I have the 4g bug, but that's about it from a hardware perspective. My gps has been spot on, and I've just been using it for timing sake. Though I know I've been on parallel roads where it still thinks I'm on the one next to it, but it snaps back once I make another turn. My garmin was no better there. And I've had mine since day one. Maybe I stopped reading the thread after a week. I was just going off of all the results of the footprints people were posting along with others saying their gps is just fine including a couple of the moderators. And using my evo somewhat side by side in the car, they both have the small circle around them while navigating. Never got the bigger circle from either of them. So I couldn't say one was better than the other.

and if you're transferring from computer to computer just to get media loaded on your epic, did you ever consider just using one of these?

Your workaround is trying to ice skate uphill when something like this is so much easier and quicker. Mine sits on my keychain in case I want to download anything from someone else's computer.
