Root [Deodex] Update.zip Deodex

Has anyone tried this: [DEODEX] Update.zip deodex - Droid X Releases - AllDroid Public Board - [DEODEX] Update.zip deodex - Droid X Releases - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home

It's an update.zip that will deodex 2.2...I can't get it to run (just stalls out in ClockworkMod Recovery at "Installing Update"), but it appears that a few people have ran it successfully.

Anyone have any experience with it?

-- I'm not sure what the rules are on posting to another forum, etc. so mods feel free to edit as necessary.

This deodexes your current version, though...so if you just want to install a theme but don't want to run/install a completely new ROM, you can run this to deodex your current system. Basically just takes the place of manually deodexing.

I'm def. not experienced with this, though, so it may not be as cool as I'm thinking it is, I just know I'd like to run the REVOlution theme but I'd prefer to not have to flash a new (deodexed) rom and completely reinstall everything. Would this be the easiest way to do that, or is it just as simple to flash a deodexed 2.2 rom and then just install the theme?

I am wondering this as well. I don't want to have to manually deodex, nor do I want to install roms. I'd really like to keep my phone the way it currently is, except deodexed so that I can install themes. Whats the best way to do this?

I'm starting to think about just waiting for the official 2.2 release, so that maybe someone will make an easy install of that with deodexed.

the update zip folders are nested completely wrong and there are a bunch of extra ones in there. You need to extract the zip then rezip the deodexupdate folder and it should work. Just so you know this does not literally deodex your current setup. It replaces apks and then deletes the odex files. so if there are apps that you removed and they are part of this update.zip you will get them back.

Good to know...so is this something we should stay away from? I haven't deleted any apps yet (waiting on the official 2.2 before start messing with it too much), so that's not necessarily a concern, but if it's not really the best way to do it, I'll just pass.

I wouldnt say its a concern especially if you havent deleted any apps. But the fact that you have to unzip and rezip it is just annoying an sloppy.
