New update fixes GPS??!??

considering almanac takes 24 hours or more to expire, there is not valid test yet.

And ANY reset for an update is going to flush the GPS-xtra assistance data cache and force new downland of Alamanc and Ephemris. There is NO way you would know if this update did anything yet. I doubt ANY GPS changes are in this update since device team is still testing various fixes.

They may have been known by US that early, but Sprint wasn't made aware of it until around the 13th of September. You can see on the official forums. A Sprint employee let everyone know when their device team started working on it. No way they could have had an update out this fast... and unfortunately, Sprint really needs to pressure Samsung to fix the issues otherwise they won't bother.

My gps just locked onto 6 satellites on my first attempt since I updated yesterday afternoon. It took about 15 seconds. Btw, I used a droid x and fascinate today in the verizon store and they actually had trouble finding a lock... Didn't try mine at the time so I don't know if it was because of our location or not
yes that shows you have the bug and there update makes no change to the GPS.
The first time you invoke after a system reset as you describe, the invalid cache problem will not be present and of course you will get an instant fix because your first attempt after the update was with a cleared cache by ANY update.

Sprint is working on a fix for two of the GPS bugs, but it is not expected before late Ocotober. I have posted a workaround that always clears the cache for now.

I installed the DI07 update yesterday afternon. I can't imagine what "GPS performance enhancement" they are talking about. The GPS problems that have been identified are discrete bugs, not "performance" issues.

I have detected no difference in the GPS performance. (I have been running with the Cold Start setting instead of the default, if that makes a difference.) I can't discern any difference in lock times. The bug with the bogus 30-meter (98.4-ft) estimated accuracy remains.

Not sure how much time I will have to test much under this new firmware. The awful problem of poor 3G network performance (coupled with disappointing 4G coverage) remains. I don't know that I can tolerate these poor network speeds, so as my 30-day trial draws to a close I am leaning toward cancellation of the phone purchase and the two-year contract. I left T-Mobile to try the Sprint Epic largely over the GPS on the Vibrant, and if its issues get fixed in the imminent release of the "optimized" Samsung firmware -- at least no worse than the Epic GPS -- I might go back.
