Whoo Hoo !!! We got our BOGO Fascinates today!

The FedEx guy dropped off our two Fascinates today.....and now we have no idea what we are doing...:D

We have spent the last hour fooling around - but actually have little to no knowledge about smartphones.

I was able to figure out how to make a new ringtone for when my wife calls....

Do I need to create a G-Mail account ??

Please take it slow with me with phones - I am pretty computer savy but not at all with smartphones.

There needs to be a post for Fascinate Smartphone Newbies......

thanks

Thanks for the post....I am basically coming from the phone that Gordon Gecco gets when he gets out of jail.... - well not really but pretty close. It was an old Moto flip phone - older then the Razr.

I guess I will start out by asking what are some good apps and how do I get them ?

I guess for now - I will play with the phone to see what I can figure out.

I just set up a G-Mail account for my wife - lets see if I can figure out how to get it to the phone........

I know all of you will probably make fun of me.........but I really am a smart phone noob.

You will need a gmail on the phone to access the market FYI. You right though playing around is the best way to learn. Also its better to ask specific questions so that you get specific answers. There isnt really a tutorial because again just messing around is the best way to learn. But as you hit snags then you can come back here and ask things like: How do I improve battery life? or How to I set custom ringtones for different contacts?
Or you can use the search function here, because likely the questions you will have already have threads on the same theme topic. The SF is my first smartphone too. If you are computer savvy as you say Im sure in a week you're be doing great

Thanks Guys !!!!!

I just figured out how to change ringtones for contacts !!

So I will play with it more tomorrow and will come back to ask more specific questions !!

Thanks again.
Great Stuff. Its always fun to have a new gadget. Once you get on the market don't be surprised when you end up DLing dozens of free apps [or even paid ones] the first time you hit the Market. With what 70K+ apps you will be overwhelmed, almost

Good luck setting up your phone. I'm average on the computer, but hadn't had a smartphone before, either. I've found it fairly easy to get set up, although I've kind of tackled it one project at a time -- get Gmail sync'ed, then set up calendars between my phone and my wife's phones, get organization apps, etc. I've spend a few nights at the computer with both of our phones in hand working on it, to be sure!

As far as apps, in a week, I'm up to 46 already (at least, according to my appbrain account). Lots of neat stuff out there. Have fun!

Whats appbrain ?

What does it do ?

Also - I see that this phone comes with Blockbuster - but is there a better app for downloading and watching movies as this app isnt rated very high ?

Appbrain is an alternative to the Market, it still uses the Market to download your apps. What makes it better is the apps it recommends for you to download is based off whats real popular and what you have installed on the phone. Also the search on it is way more accurate then in the market.
