I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S. To my suprise i read on this forum that it is common to modify the phone in order for it to work properly.
Is that really acceptable?!
If i buy a phone for 500 euro i expect it to function properly, according to the specification, without having to crack and modify it.
Is it really a piece of shit?

Best regards

Well personally I dont like the phone that much and if given an option would consider selling it.

Having said that to be fair to Galaxy S there is nothing wrong with the phone. The reviews about the phone are good and many people are happy with it.

If you ask the people in general who dont access forums much they would tell you. But here most people are knowledgeable when it comes to technology, rooting etc so they dont mind rooting there phone to solve the "LAG" issue. thats why you find many people saying here that modifying the phone to work properly is ok.

I dont know how HTC phones work when it comes to thee problem of "LAG" but as far as comparison between Iphone and Android is concerned I would like to share the below photo with you-

Incorrect. You don't modify it to make it work correctly, it works just fine out of the box.

Its common to modify it if you want to unleash an absolute monster of a phone though.

So yes, it will function properly, like promised when you spend so much on a phone.

Can I ask, you own it, do you think its a piece of shit? Because thats what you should be basing your opinion on.

The lag is a little annoying but it's really not that big a deal and is something most users wouldn't notice or care about and we don't have a GPS fix yet.

The lagfix is really only for power users, but to answer your question, no it's not acceptable.

GPS obviously shouldn't be having these issues and theres no way to justify the amount of time this has been left unfixed by Samsung.

Coming from a BlackBerry, I have to ask why all the fuss over rooting and using various ROMs. Regardless which phone you use, you end up stuck with bloatware courtesy of your provider and you end up stuck with the system release that is blessed by your carrier. If you want to change that, you learn how to modify it, but you don't need to do so just to make your phone functional.

I have the Vibrant (T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy S) and I think it works exactly as advertised. I love the physical phone itself, the screen is fabulous, and the only issues I could complain about are the battery life and the GPS. My battery life has improved and I bought a couple extras so its no big deal. While I wish the GPS was better, it isn't what I purchased the phone for so I can't really complain. I already have a GPS and I'm hopeful it will get resolved before long.

To those who think the phone is not acceptable or "a piece of shit" I would have to ask why did you buy it in the first place and if you weren't happy with it once you bought it, why didn't you return it?

I'm very happy with my Vibrant. And I would encourage you to play with it and decide whether or not you are happy with it. If you are, who cares what someone else thinks of its value? And if not, return it while it you can.
