How do you enjoy the samsung fascinate?

It's a perfect transition from the Eris, for me. Indeed, it seems like a bigger, brighter, faster Eris, minus the hard keys.

My Eris served me well, very well, from 1.5 and on. It was difficult to let it go, but I did mainly for the screen size; my only issue with that device. The Eris was a bit larger and better resolution than the Samsung Instinct I came off going to the Eris, so the Fascinate is the next natural step. ;)

My new Fascinate did not cause me to say "bye" to my Eris family of friends.

I'm not here quite as often or for as long as when I had my Eris, but I'll always be around this area for the foreseeable future (whether they like it or not :D).

Perhaps you'll feel similarly after a while. ;)

Hey, Frisco, congrats to you Fascinate, good for you!
Would you care to run down a short comparison (your subjective impression) between the Eris and the Fascinate?

Have you rooted it yet?

Thanks Peter.

Yes, it's rooted; my only qualm with it was the same one with all Android devices: bloat.

Now I've used Root Explorer and a few cli commands to remove all but what I want in the app drawer.

It's a bigger, faster, brighter Eris.. same form factor, etc. No hard buttons, which I like very much.

Here's a screen shot of my home screen:

So assuming that each of us got our Erises when the device came out (last November, not quite a year ago), how are you people able to get upgrades so early? I'm not due for a discounted upgrade through Verizon until next June and I got the Eris the second day it was out.

Some people are on family plans and snag upgrades from other lines, while some of us are on one year contracts and can upgrade after 10 months. For example, I didn't get my eris until January 19th of this year. However, I will be eligible for an upgrade on November 19th of this year, as well.

The camera is great.. I've been using it all week-end.

GPS will be put to the test Wednesday when I head out of town for most of the day. As far as checking it here, around town where I live, it's spot on every place I go.

I'm very happy with this thing. One issue I had was the tiny little power button, which is also used to put the device to sleep and wake it up. I was having a hard time with it (arthritis).

But I found an app that causes the volume keys to be used for waking it up, and a "sleep-lock" widget that I put in the dock (screenshot: that's the icon on the far right in the dock).. so, problem solved. ;)

Like Sc00bz said, stealing someone else's upgrade. This is where having kids come in handy. Tell them there grades weren't good enough... so they cant upgrade their phone:D
and VOILA! you have a new phone...

Yeah, not to hijack but i'm seriously considering adding a 3rd line to my family plan to get a fascinate. The worry i have there though is will verizon let me drop data from the eris plan or would i have to change that plan to a dumbphone in order to avoid the data? Also, once i have added the line, would they then let me switch the fascinate to my current eris line so i wouldn't have to set up call forwarding, thus confusing my friends when i constantly call them back from a number different than what they recognize?

I believe you can call them and tell them that phone wont be used for a while. In fact, they can even turn it off. Not cancel it, but deactivate the line. KInd of like if you lost the phone and they turned it off until you call to activate the new phone.

So they can take very single paid feature off(insurance, text messaging, etc.), and you should only be paying about $10 a month for it.

I would still have to use a different phone number though, right?
