This might seem dumb and noobish ( i am new to android, had DX for a month from a BB) but what are the best steps after I use UniverisalAndroot. I keep seeing it suggested to back up, but how is the best way to do that? Do you save a backup on the SD or on a pc? How do you get the phone to restore a backup? I think these are the questions that are holding me back from rooting but I might have others.

Thanks for helping and not making to much fun of me :)

When you need to restore, is that explained, or does it automatically boot into a restored version?

Restoring apps is straight forward with Titanium Backup.

If by restore, you mean the entire system (froyo, 2.1 etc) then that involves bootstrap recovery, which you can find more on throughout this forum. If you could give us specific steps as to what you wish to do with your phone, we can help you in a much more intuitive manner. :)

Once you root, you can install/purchase ROM Manager and Droid X Bootstrapper from the market. You then can install the 2.2 ROM (assuming you are rooting from 2.1) from ROM Manager.

Removing the bloatware can be done with titanium backup, you can even just 'freeze' apps with the donation version of it.

Battlestar theme? No clue if there is one, but you will need to probably download it on your pc and move it over to the root of your phone in a .zip format.
