Maybe its the perfectionist in me, but it drives me nuts to see how many half arsed uninstall instructions are out there for things, especially City ID.

To remove city ID properly, boot into clockwork recvovery and mount /system under the partitions menu.

Then,

Code:
adb shell
rm /system/app/CityID.apk
rm /system/framework/com.cequint.platform.jar
rm /system/framework/com.cequint.platform.odex

Unmount System in the partitions menu and reboot.

Upon reboot and back at home screen:

Code:
adb shell
su
pm uninstall com.cequint.cityid

This will give a success message. If its a failure message, then its not needed, or more likely, you made a typo. This can be checked via manage applications (but cannot be removed from there unless done this way).

NOW City ID is truly gone.

from Howto: Root the HTC Droid Incredible - Technology - Jonamerica.com:

App bloat (stock applications you don’t want) can easily be dealt with.

  1. Boot into Clockworkmod recovery by powering off the phone and pressing and holding the volume down and power button until the screen lights up.
  2. At the menu press volume down to select Recovery, then press power.
  3. At the Clockworkmod main menu select partitions menu, then select mount /system
  4. On the computer click Start > Run, and type CMD to open a command prompt.
  5. In the command prompt type cd\sdk\tools
  6. At the command prompt type adb shell. Now you’re in the phone’s OS.
then follow the rest of the instructions from the first post, beginning with the commands in the first code box.

no more ****tyId for me, thanks! :D

I feel slightly stupid,
in the command prompt when i enter cd\sdk\tools, I get "The system cannot find the path specified".

Thanks

You need to cd to the tools directory where you installed the SDK. In the example you were given, the SDK was installed in \sdk\. If you installed to a different directory, then this will not work for you. Also make sure that there is a space between the cd and \.

Is CityID really that bad? I don't mind having it, I think it's kind of a cool feature actually, but does it have some sort of negative affect on the way the phone operates that makes everyone hate it so much?

Not really. But if you can remove it, why not? After the first two weeks, it just sits there unless you pay. So why let it sit there? It also runs, but the cpu cycles it takes are minimal and negligible. To me, it was more of removing it so I did not have to see it, and to free up memory (not that I have a memory problem, but strictly speaking it is better to have as much free for future use as possible).

Here is (in my opinion) the fastest way to remove the bloatware apps.
1. Root Phone
2. Install titanium backup
3. Enable "Chuck Norris Mode" yes it is called that in the app
4. Select the apps you want and uninstall them... gone for good.

Thank you SO MUCH! I have spent the better part of the morning after I rooted my phone (which was uber easy!!) trying to figure out how to get rid of City ID. I kept getting threads that made no sense to me but this was super easy for a noob like me. Thank you!!

It sounds real easy, but I'm having a problem. I rooted using unrevoked 3.21 last night. When I try to run Titanium backup it says that it couldn't acquire root and that I need to make sure "busyboy" is installed. What is that exactly, and what do I need to enable to get this to run. I verified that I have root, "Supervisor permissions is in my program list.

EDIT: Found the answer, thanks!

I enabled "Chuck Norris" Mode but now how do I delete the apps I don't want?
